The Company is seeking an experienced power systems engineer to provide technical leadership on grid interconnection and advanced power system studies supporting utility-scale solar, battery energy storage, hybrid generation, and large-load projects throughout North America.
This position combines hands-on technical work, project leadership, client interaction, quality oversight, and mentorship. The successful candidate will lead complex interconnection engagements, coordinate with utilities and ISOs, review modeling and study results, and guide engineering teams through project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
-
Lead generator and large-load interconnection studies within markets including ERCOT, PJM, CAISO, MISO, SPP, NYISO, and individual utility or cooperative systems.
-
Perform and provide technical oversight for RMS and EMT studies using tools such as PSS®E, PSLF, PSCAD, ASPEN, and related power system software.
-
Develop and review steady-state and dynamic models in accordance with applicable ISO and utility requirements.
-
Support grid-following (GFL) and grid-forming (GFM) inverter studies, including vendor and user-defined model implementation, tuning, and validation.
-
Evaluate ISO and utility study results, identify technical concerns, develop mitigation strategies, and support re-study activities when required.
-
Lead large-load modeling, sensitivity analysis, and associated interconnection study assumptions.
-
Oversee Temporary Overvoltage (TOV) and Transient Overvoltage studies involving medium-voltage collection systems and substations.
-
Guide projects through plant sizing, interconnection applications, scoping activities, study review, mitigation, model validation, and compliance closeout.
-
Prepare, review, and approve engineering reports, model validation documentation, technical presentations, and utility/ISO submittals.
-
Communicate technical findings, system impacts, mitigation alternatives, and schedule risks to clients and multidisciplinary project teams.
Project & Technical Leadership
-
Manage the technical execution of multiple concurrent studies or a broader portfolio of interconnection projects.
-
Establish and review project scope, engineering hours, schedules, budgets, staffing requirements, and technical deliverables.
-
Identify technical or delivery risks early and develop appropriate corrective actions.
-
Support business development activities by contributing technical input to proposals and scopes of work.
-
Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers.
-
Coordinate engineering activities and deliverables across multiple project teams and disciplines.
-
Serve as a senior technical contact for clients, utilities, ISOs, and other external stakeholders.
Standards & Quality
-
Ensure work complies with applicable interconnection requirements, FERC Orders, NERC reliability standards including MOD, PRC, and FAC, and relevant requirements under IEEE 1547 and IEEE 2800.
-
Review modeling packages and interconnection documentation for technical accuracy, consistency, and submission readiness.
-
Approve model quality and validation reports intended for utility or ISO review and audit requirements.
-
Apply engineering judgment to complex studies where established procedures may require adaptation.
Technical Strategy
-
Monitor changes to ISO tariffs, interconnection procedures, modeling requirements, and related regulatory developments.
-
Improve engineering methods, study workflows, automation tools, and modeling practices.
-
Provide subject-matter expertise to engineering leadership on interconnection and grid-integration matters.
-
Participate in industry working groups or stakeholder activities when appropriate.
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Electrical Engineering; power systems specialization preferred.
-
8+ years of power system study experience involving generator and/or large-load interconnection.
-
Strong hands-on experience with PSS®E, PSLF, PSCAD, ASPEN, or comparable power system analysis platforms.
-
Working knowledge of interconnection procedures across multiple ISOs and utilities.
-
Experience developing dynamic and steady-state models and supporting utility/ISO study and model-review processes.
-
Ability to independently select and apply appropriate modeling approaches for complex power system assignments.
-
Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
-
Experience leading projects, mentoring engineers, and managing technical client relationships.
Preferred Qualifications
