Job Description
The Senior Transportation Engineer (STE) position requires the ability to lead the completion of transportation design and the ability to supervise and mentor mid-level and junior engineers. The STE will serve as project manager and/or transportation lead engineer on transportation infrastructure projects, including highway, transit and heavy rail. The engineering duties are comprehensive, and include planning and scheduling of engineering work, client management, overseeing the performance of advanced design, directing and planning the work of staff, and being responsible for the delivery of contract plans, specifications and bid estimates.
Responsibilities
- Project Manager and client management on transportation-related projects.
- Manage projects or task orders with clients such as Metro, Caltrans, California High Speed Rail Authority, City of Los Angeles, LAWA, and other local agencies. Lead projects to successful completion in terms of client satisfaction, technical accuracy, profitability, etc.
- Develop production work plans, schedules and budgets.
- Work with other project managers and unit manager to establish contract budgets and scopes of work.
- Lead transportation project team in analysis and design. Oversee performance of complex design.
- Ensure proper codes and standards are being used on projects.
- Supervise, coordinate and review the work of other engineers and designers.
- Provide the design staff with guidance and assistance on projects.
- Responsible for the successful completion of projects under his/her direction.
- Perform a significant role in marketing of roadway and highway design services.
- Support major projects by performing the following:
- Attend Project Development Team meetings
- Coordinate work with other discipline leaders
- Work on all aspects of Transportation Design, including transportation alignments, profile grades, geometrics, drainage facilities, construction details, construction staging, utility plans and any other component of preliminary engineering studies or PS&E
- Calculate quantities and prepare engineering estimates
- Prepare technical reports, letters, and memos for development of transportation projects.
- Perform preliminary field investigations and existing date research to be used in preparation of a working project base file with topography, mapping, and utilities
- Prepare alternative design options and document findings
- Assure that all PS&E are in accordance with company production and design standards
Qualifications
Requires BSCE degree with emphasis in roadway design. California P.E. license and 10-15 years of transportation design experience. Experience in project management required. Successful experience managing transportation design projects and design teams. Requires advanced knowledge of transportation design and analysis software. Ability to prepare comprehensive engineering reports. Experience with Caltrans procedures required.
