Senior Trade Compliance Consultant

Our client, a well-established industry leader in advanced networking and electronic solutions, is seeking a Senior Trade Compliance Consultant to support their international compliance program. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to high-level global trade strategy and execution, helping ensure compliance with complex export and import regulations across multiple jurisdictions.

As part of a cross-functional team, you will guide regulatory alignment and improve the organization’s compliance posture. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in U.S. and international trade compliance and a consultative mindset, capable of tackling strategic projects and mentoring internal staff.

Note: This is a Contract position.

Focus:

  • Lead strategic projects related to export and import compliance, including licensing, classification, and regulatory assessments.
  • Provide expert-level guidance on trade regulations such as EAR, ITAR, CBP, and OFAC.
  • Develop, enhance, and maintain internal control processes (ICP), procedures, and compliance documentation.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of export license applications, ensuring alignment with U.S. BIS regulations and equivalent authorities abroad.
  • Partner with third-party logistics providers (3PLs) to support compliant international shipping operations.
  • Perform product classification and determine country of origin using HTS, ECCN, and other regulatory tools.
  • Ensure proper application of export control rules to technical data, hardware, and software transactions globally.
  • Support voluntary self-disclosure initiatives and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Deliver targeted trade compliance training to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) on key compliance topics, including global encryption controls and multi-country licensing strategies.

Skill Set:

Must-Have Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience in trade compliance or global logistics compliance.
  • Direct experience with trade licensing (BIS/SNAP-R and international equivalents).
  • Strong command of export control regimes and product classification frameworks, including ECCN, HTS, and Schedule B codes.
  • Demonstrated success developing and managing internal control programs (ICP/SOPs).
  • Deep understanding of export controls as they apply to telecommunications and electronics products.
  • Skilled at communicating with legal, executive, and technical stakeholders.
  • Prior experience supporting global operations, including EU and APAC regions.

Preferred Background:

  • Industry exposure in telecommunications, electronics, or high-tech manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with product development environments and technical documentation.
  • Hands-on work with global trade software (Amber Road or similar).
  • Previous collaboration with legal teams or external counsel in compliance-related matters.
