Our client needs a Senior Tool and Die Maker with deep expertise in progressive die stamping.

The Senior Tool and Die Maker is responsible for building, maintaining, and troubleshooting progressive stamping dies used in production environments.

The Senior Tool and Die Maker needs background in toolmaking for metal stamping applications, particularly in designing and servicing multi-station progressive dies for tight-tolerance components.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, assemble, fit progressive stamping dies according to blueprints, CAD models etc..
  • Set up and operate manual and CNC machinery (mills, lathes, grinders, EDM) to fabricate die components with precision.
  • Troubleshoot die performance issues on the production press line, identifying root causes of part defects, misfeeds, or tool wear.
  • Perform die maintenance, sharpening, repair support production output and minimize downtime.
  • Assist die tryouts, inspections that tools meet part quality standards and dimensional accuracy.
  • Modify dies based on engineering changes or feedback from production and quality teams.
  • Interpret, apply GD&T, material specifications, stamping tolerances in die design and adjustment.
  • Mentor junior toolmakers and apprentices in best practices for die build and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with engineers, operators, quality group optimize die performance, part consistency.
  • Maintain accurate records of die maintenance, changeovers, and tooling revisions.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience as a Tool and Die Maker with progressive die stamping.
  • Experience in automotive, appliance, or industrial stamping environments preferred
  • Expertise in building, maintaining, and troubleshooting multi-station progressive dies for high-volume metal stamping.
  • Proficient in reading complex blueprints, tool designs, and CAD drawings.
  • Skilled in manual machining and operation of CNC mills, surface grinders, wire/sinker EDM, etc.
  • Understand die clearance, timing, punch alignment, carrier strip progression, and press setup.
  • Familiarity with high-speed presses, coil feeding systems, and in-die sensors is highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of CAD/CAM software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Mastercam).
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure.
  • High attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality and safety.
  • Completion of a certified Tool & Die Maker apprenticeship program preferred .
