We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Manager to lead our clients corporate tax practice and step into a critical leadership role, eventually replacing a departing Partner. This position demands deep expertise in corporate tax compliance and planning, with a primary focus on complex corporate returns and the individual entities within consolidated groups. The ideal candidate will manage client relationships, drive business development, mentor staff, and ensure seamless delivery during peak seasons.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee preparation, review, and filing of federal, state, and local corporate income tax returns (Forms 1120, 1120-S, consolidated returns, etc.).
  • Provide strategic tax planning and advisory services for C-corps, S-corps, partnerships, and their underlying entities, including mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and multi-state apportionment.
  • Lead tax research on complex issues using CCH, RIA, or Bloomberg Tax; draft technical memoranda and client communications.
  • Manage a portfolio of corporate clients; serve as primary point of contact and trusted advisor.
  • Supervise, train, and develop a team of tax professionals (seniors, staff, and interns).
  • Collaborate with audit and advisory teams on integrated client solutions.
  • Contribute to firm growth through networking, proposal development, and cross-selling opportunities.
  • Ensure quality control, risk management, and compliance with firm policies and IRS regulations.
  • Work extended hours during busy season (average 55 hours/week from January to April).

Requirements

  • 15+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, with heavy emphasis on corporate returns and individual entities within consolidated groups.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; Master’s in Taxation preferred.
  • Active CPA license required.
  • Proven track record managing complex corporate tax engagements and leading teams.
  • Strong technical knowledge of ASC 740 (FIN 48), Subchapter C/S, and multi-jurisdictional tax issues.
  • Excellent project management skills with ability to handle multiple deadlines.
  • Demonstrated client relationship and business development capabilities.
  • Leadership experience replacing or supporting Partner-level responsibilities strongly preferred.
