Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs technical tax review and final approval of all tax returns and government tax examinations of various complexities.
- Serves as the subject matter expert in specific tax disciplines or industries, providing guidance and expert advice.
- Oversees and ensures that client service assignments are carried out within the allocated budget and time frame.
- Takes full responsibility for larger tax returns and strategically delegates to prepare as necessary, optimizing team strengths.
- Actively participates in client meetings and tax planning efforts, supporting the Audit and Assurance Department with large clients.
- Functions as a vital resource for tax preparers/specialists and audit staff, addressing complex tax issues and queries.
- Manages client service responsibilities directly or as delegated by the Partner, ensuring high-quality service delivery.
- Communicates significant tax and legislative developments that affect the firm's clients to the appropriate team members.
- Delegates and oversees government tax examinations and represents clients before tax authorities when needed.
- Maintains awareness of the tax staff's qualifications, reallocating and assigning tasks to ensure optimal use of resources.
- Focuses on the development and training of staff at all levels within the tax department through recruitment, performance evaluations, and professional development programs.
- Ensures accurate and timely billing and collections processes.
- Retains complete knowledge of the firm’s policies, philosophies, and opinions on tax matters.
- Stays informed about general economic and political trends and potential legislation that could affect the business climate.
- Engages in firm practice development activities by networking with referral sources and participating in community and industry activities.
- Responsible for the comprehensive development, coaching, and training of senior, semi-senior, and junior staff accountants.
- Contributes to the ongoing review and evaluation of the tax department's practices and procedures.
- Occasionally travels for work at client sites, meetings, and seminars and works overtime as required, especially during peak tax seasons.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
- Seven to ten years of experience in public accounting with proven progression in tax complexity and scope.
- Minimum of two years of experience representing clients before taxing authorities.
- At least one year of experience supervising and directing the work of tax preparers.
- A Bachelor’s degree in accounting is mandatory.
- Valid and current certified public accountant (CPA) license is required.
- Membership in good standing with the American Institute of CPAs.
- Commitment to ongoing education and professional development with a minimum of forty hours of continuing education annually.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in taxation is highly preferred.
