Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform technical tax review and approval of all tax returns and governmental tax examinations of any complexity.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in specific tax disciplines or industries.
- Ensure all client service tasks are completed within budgeted time.
- Take full responsibility for larger tax returns, delegating to tax preparers as necessary.
- Actively participate in client meetings and tax planning to assist with larger clients.
- Serve as a resource for tax preparers/specialists and A&A staff on specific tax issues/questions.
- Assume client service responsibilities directly or as delegated from partners.
- Communicate important tax developments affecting the firm’s clients to the appropriate firm personnel.
- Delegate and manage governmental tax examinations, representing clients before taxing authorities as needed.
- Maintain familiarity with qualifications of all tax staff members; review staff assignments for appropriateness.
- Develop responsible, trained staff by assisting in recruiting, performing evaluations, creating training aids, and acting as an instructor in professional development programs.
- Ensure accurate and timely billing and collection processes.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of the firm’s philosophy and its opinions on tax matters.
- Stay informed on general economic and political trends that could affect business and possible tax legislation.
- Engage in firm practice development efforts through involvement with referral sources, community, and industry activities.
- Responsible for the development, coaching, and training of senior, semi-senior, and staff accountants.
- Participate in reviews and evaluations of the tax department.
- Occasional travel required for work at client offices, meetings, and seminars.
- Occasional overtime work required throughout the year, with heavy overtime from January 1 to April 15, possibly exceeding 55 hours per week.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
- Seven to ten years experience in public accounting, showing a proven progression in tax complexity and scope.
- At least two (2) years experience representing clients before taxing authorities.
- Minimum one (1) year experience supervising and directing the work of tax preparers.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
- A current and valid certified public accountant’s license is mandatory.
- Member in good standing with the American Institute of CPAs.
- Minimum of forty hours of continuing education annually to maintain and develop technical and business skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in taxation preferred.
