Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the technical review and approval of all tax returns and governmental tax examinations.
- Act as a subject matter expert in various tax disciplines and industries.
- Ensure client service is timely and accurate, managing budgetary constraints.
- Handle full responsibility for significant clients' tax returns, delegating tasks as necessary.
- Engage actively in client meetings and planning efforts, collaborating with the Assurance & Advisory Department.
- Provide expertise and support to tax preparers and other staff on specific tax issues.
- Assume client service responsibilities directly or in a delegated capacity from partners.
- Manage and represent clients during governmental tax examinations effectively.
- Monitor and evaluate the qualifications and workload of all tax department staff.
- Lead in the recruitment, development, training, and instructional endeavors of the tax department.
- Ensure the firm is kept current on all relevant tax laws and standards that could impact clients.
- Participate in and contribute to firm practice development by building professional relationships.
- Drive the professional development of staff and seniors through mentorship and training.
- Required to travel occasionally for client engagements, meetings, and seminars.
- Prepare for heavy workloads during tax season, expecting overtime as needed.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
- 7-10 years of progressive public accounting experience with a focus on tax complexity and scope.
- Proven experience representing clients before taxing authorities.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct the work of tax preparers.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting is mandatory, with a Master’s degree in taxation being highly preferred.
- A current and valid CPA license is required.
- Must participate in at least forty hours of continuing education annually.
- Membership in good standing with the American Institute of CPAs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in taxation.
- Experience in a leadership role within a CPA firm or similar environment.
- Strong familiarity with both SEC and closely held clients across different industries.
- History of successful client relations and substantial direct client responsibilities.
- Advanced skills in tax planning and strategy for diverse client portfolios.
