Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer to lead the civil engineering scope for large, complex power infrastructure projects, including HVDC, FACTS, and high-voltage substations.

This role will oversee civil and structural activities from early project development through detailed design, construction, and closeout. The engineer will manage technical scope, schedules, budgets, subcontractors, design quality, and coordination with project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the full civil and structural scope for major high-voltage and grid infrastructure projects.
• Develop civil engineering execution plans, schedules, budgets, scopes of work, and technical deliverables.
• Oversee design activities involving:
  • Structural steel and concrete buildings
  • Equipment support structures
  • Deep and shallow foundations
  • Site grading and earthwork
  • Stormwater and drainage systems
  • Underground utilities and duct banks
  • Roads, site development, and building infrastructure
• Manage external engineering consultants and civil/structural design subcontractors.
• Review engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, bills of quantities, and construction packages.
• Provide technical leadership for large industrial buildings with significant equipment loads and long-span structural requirements.
• Support proposals and tenders with conceptual designs, construction estimates, civil scope development, and technical documentation.
• Work with procurement and project teams to evaluate subcontractors, develop contracting strategies, and review technical proposals.
• Coordinate civil requirements with electrical, mechanical, architectural, construction, and site teams.
• Track technical changes, project risks, schedule impacts, and cost deviations throughout execution.
• Provide field engineering support and help resolve construction-related technical issues.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, customer requirements, safety expectations, and quality standards.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across the civil engineering team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Active U.S. Professional Engineer (PE) license in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• 10+ years of experience supporting large capital power infrastructure or EPC projects.
• Strong experience with civil and structural engineering for HV substations, FACTS, HVDC, or similar industrial facilities.
• Demonstrated experience managing engineering subcontractors and multidisciplinary design activities.
• Strong understanding of how electrical substation layouts and equipment requirements affect civil and structural design.

Preferred Background

• Strong structural design experience with steel and reinforced concrete structures.
• Experience with industrial buildings, equipment foundations, substation structures, site works, and underground infrastructure.
• Familiarity with IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC, IEEE, and other applicable U.S. design codes and standards.
• Working knowledge of architectural, mechanical, and electrical building interfaces.
• Experience with software such as STAAD.Pro, RISA, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, Bluebeam, Mathcad, or similar engineering platforms.
• PMP or other project management certification.
• Strong experience managing scope, schedules, budgets, contractors, and technical risks.
• Ability to independently manage multiple priorities while leading teams toward project deadlines and quality targets.
