Senior Property Accountant

Location: Charlotte, NC (Hybrid)

Industry: Commercial Real Estate

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of commercial office, industrial, and/or retail properties.
  • Prepare accurate monthly financial statements, variance analyses, and supporting schedules.
  • Perform monthly close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Review and reconcile CAM (Common Area Maintenance), real estate taxes, insurance, and tenant recoveries.
  • Coordinate with Property Managers and Asset Managers to analyze property performance and resolve accounting-related issues.
  • Assist with annual operating expense reconciliations and tenant billings.
  • Prepare lender, ownership, and management reporting as needed.
  • Support annual audits by preparing schedules and responding to auditor requests.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting efficiencies.
  • Assist with special projects, acquisitions, dispositions, and system improvements as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 3+ years of property accounting experience, preferably within commercial real estate.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and month-end close processes.
  • Experience preparing financial statements for multiple properties.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and lookup functions.
  • Experience with Yardi, MRI, RealPage, or another property management/accounting system is highly preferred.

Preferred Experience

  • Commercial office, industrial, mixed-use, or retail property portfolio experience.
  • Experience with CAM reconciliations and tenant recoveries.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with operations and property management teams.
