Senior Property Accountant
Location: Charlotte, NC (Hybrid)
Industry: Commercial Real Estate
Responsibilities
- Manage the full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of commercial office, industrial, and/or retail properties.
- Prepare accurate monthly financial statements, variance analyses, and supporting schedules.
- Perform monthly close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Review and reconcile CAM (Common Area Maintenance), real estate taxes, insurance, and tenant recoveries.
- Coordinate with Property Managers and Asset Managers to analyze property performance and resolve accounting-related issues.
- Assist with annual operating expense reconciliations and tenant billings.
- Prepare lender, ownership, and management reporting as needed.
- Support annual audits by preparing schedules and responding to auditor requests.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting efficiencies.
- Assist with special projects, acquisitions, dispositions, and system improvements as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 3+ years of property accounting experience, preferably within commercial real estate.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and month-end close processes.
- Experience preparing financial statements for multiple properties.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and lookup functions.
- Experience with Yardi, MRI, RealPage, or another property management/accounting system is highly preferred.
Preferred Experience
- Commercial office, industrial, mixed-use, or retail property portfolio experience.
- Experience with CAM reconciliations and tenant recoveries.
- Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with operations and property management teams.
