We are looking for a Senior Project Accountant – Construction to work for our client. The ideal candidate aligns with the responsibilities and qualifications outlined below.
About the Role
Our client is seeking a construction‑savvy Senior Project Accountant who can take ownership of project financials, drive accurate AIA billing, and serve as a key partner to project managers and operations. This hybrid role supports multiple active jobs, ensuring compliant billing, tight cost control, and clear financial visibility across the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and manage AIA billings (G702/G703) including schedule of values, change orders, and retainage
- Maintain detailed job cost accounting: cost codes, commitments, change events, and budget vs. actuals
- Support percent‑complete revenue recognition and WIP schedules; reconcile to the GL monthly
- Coordinate subcontractor compliance: lien waivers, insurance/COIs, and payment applications
- Review and process change orders, tracking impacts on margin and cash flow
- Partner with Project Managers on forecasts, cost‑to‑complete, and variance analysis
- Prepare monthly project financial packages and present results to operations leadership
- Facilitate owner and subcontractor pay applications, retainage releases, and aging follow‑up
- Assist with audits and ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies
- Identify process improvements to tighten cycle times and data integrity
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3+ years of construction accounting experience (GC or specialty contractor)
- Hands‑on expertise with AIA billing, WIP/percent‑complete, and job cost accounting
- Experience with construction ERPs (e.g., Sage 300 CRE/Timberline, Viewpoint Vista, CMiC, Procore Financials)
- Strong Excel skills; able to build templates for billing, forecasts, and variance analysis
- Excellent communication and partnership skills with project teams
