Shepherd Staff is honored to be working with Gateway Church in Brawley, CA as they search for their next Senior Pastor. Gateway is a healthy, young, growing community of disciples, committed to gospel doctrine (truth) and gospel culture (love). We are seeking an authentic, word-centered, relational pastor to join our team and lead our congregation into spiritual vitality and mission.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for Christ-centered teaching, a desire to invest and build up the church community, and a vision to lead the church in her mission to make disciples and multiply new churches.


The ideal candidate will be:

  • Example Character: stands up to the biblical qualifications of a pastor-elder in scripture. By grace, he will lead himself, and his wife and family (if he has one!) well. His character will embody the gospel story.
  • Relational/Personal: A pastor who seeks to know others and be known by others. This requires stewarding his time. We recognize because of human limits—he won’t be best friends with everyone, but we want a pastor who loves people.
  • Trained: A pastor with an MDIV (or equivalent) or at least working towards that degree is preferred.
  • Exceptional Communication Skills: An authentic communicator with the ability to connect with a community that is largely Caucasian and Mexican.
  • Strong Leader: A passion for raising up and empowering leaders. Fosters a collaborative team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities:

  • 1st Among Equals Elder Leadership: Co-leads the church with the Elders, simultaneously offering points on vision, direction, and decision-making for the church while also building up, collaborating /submitting to their authority.
  • Preach the Word: oversees the word of God is taught and preached all throughout the church. There is a special emphasis on his ability to preach a healthy majority of practical, biblical, Christ-Centered, expository sermons on Sundays annually.
  • Gospel Culture Setter: leads the gospel culture of the church by both communicating gospel doctrine and embodying gospel culture at every level.
  • Oversee Services: Collaborates and leads services that are biblical, engaging, and enriching on a weekly basis as well as needed.
  • Caring Shepherd: Provides pastoral care for the congregation alongside elders, which could include sick visits, counseling care, crisis support, ect.
