Senior Manager, Accounting

Job Summary:

The Senior Manager of Accounting is responsible for the maintenance of complete and accurate financial records reflecting all operations and functions. This position provides Distribution Center department managers with the financial information needed for their respective areas of operation.
The Senior Manager of Accounting oversees the preparation of Annual and Quarterly financial plans for all areas of the warehouse. This position is responsible for generating reports and writing visual basic for applications code to produce reports, quarterly and annual projections, cost per case reports, and other financial reports. Director, Accounting.

Essential Duties and Key Accountability:

  • Designs, creates, and implements the daily review of Retalix balancing methods to ensure that general ledger interfaces balance to Retalix, and that material errors are occurring in the non-interfaced warehouse (Triceps), Accounts payable (prompt), billing (ABS) and procurement (Biceps)
  • Prepares the annual plan, updates quarterly financial plans and weekly plans from the quarterly plans, including working with all department managers to meet their established goals (MBO’s)
  • Designs reports and writes visual basic code as required to produce weekly, monthly and quarterly managerial reports including but not limited to: Weekly labor, progress, service level and tonnage, average/ending inventory, and backhaul reports, product loss reports, and other managerial reports
  • Institutes accounting principles, practices, and procedures to affect adequate controls to safeguard company assets
  • Reviews and analyzes P&L’s, general ledger balances, and prepares variance reports with explanations and corrective actions
  • Ensures the conversion of Vacaville from IDMS to Retalix is made with adequate internal controls, management reports, and without any major accounting problem; oversees the conversion of YW from Lawson to Retalix is managed in the same way
  • Reviews and approves expense payables, purchase card statements, purchase orders, reclamation deductions, and managerial reports
  • Responds to vendor correspondence, outside audit claims, category manager requests and other special projects
  • Prepares consolidated reports for Vacaville and Roseville such as the consolidated sales and tonnage, consolidated P&L summary, consolidated progress report, consolidated service levels, consolidated excess inventories, consolidated inventory values. Prepares consolidated reports for YW also, with results reflecting $/case, excess inventory, average inventories, etc., for the entire distribution system as a whole
  • Coordinates Quarter-End process; creates standard quarter-end entries, reviews accounting entries, investigates P&L variances, and coordinates end of quarter with the accounting manager in Vacaville
  • Manages subordinates to include hiring, training, coaching, counseling, performance appraisals, discipline and termination when necessary, in conjunction with Employee Relations and Human Resources’ Department policies and procedures
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education: Four-year college degree or equivalent experience

Experience: Five years of related experience
