Senior Mechanical Engineer

Reports to

Job Purpose

This position requires expert mechanical engineering design skills in automotive machine designs.

Primary Responsibilities

Senior Mechanical Engineer perform a wide range of duties such as:

  • Primary mechanical lead design engineer to ensure completion of form, weight, reliability, and material analysis
  • Perform and present gated design reviews with both internal staff, as well as with customers at specific times in the design lifecycle of components
  • Lead troubleshooting and debugging efforts
  • Responsible for checking and reviewing designs from mechanical engineers
  • Responsible for plant 2D layouts
  • Ensure understanding of all quality policy systems and quality procedures
  • Provide work direction to mechanical engineers for design and development
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively with project management, control engineers and shop technician for design and build support
  • May be responsible for install supervision and production support at customer site
  • Ability to perform and review detailed limited element structural analysis.
  • Attend meetings
  • Manage purchase releases
  • Manage design review documents and process updates

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in software applications including Solid Works (primary CAD software), Product Data Management (PDM) software, 2D AutoCAD, and DraftSight, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, & Power Point), Finite Element Analysis (FEA) or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Geometric Tolerancing
  • Knowledge of machining processes and manufacturing
  • Detail oriented
  • Robot cell design
  • Automation design
  • Technical communication
  • Must be able to multi-task. May have to lead multiple projects simultaneously
  • Driven and willing to work overtime to meet project deadlines
  • Valid driver’s license and have or be able to acquire a valid passport
  • Must wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required

Education

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering field

Experience

Minimum of 10 years’ experience with industrial/automotive machine design or equivalent industry experience

Work Conditions

This job operates in an office and plant environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photo copiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, tools, and other machines.
