Senior Manager - Driveline Systems (Electric Drive Module)

A global technology leader of motor systems and electric drive assemblies for electric vehicles and hybrids is in the process of developing a brand new NAFTA Technology Canter and manufacturing facility in the Southfield, Michigan area. They will be developing complete electric drive module control systems including utilizing SMT (surface mount technology) to manufacture their own PCBs (printed circuit boards). A global technology leader this state-of-the-art facility is their introduction to North America and will be highly automated and house the latest in electronics manufacturing.

Sr. Manager - Driveline Systems – North America

The Driveline Systems (2-in-1) Electric Drive Module Manager role will serve as a product engineering leader to a wide range of technical activities in support of North American customers. This will include leading the cross-functional activities internal to team including: CAD, quality, manufacturing, purchasing, and sales. The Electric Drive Module (eMotor + Gearbox) systems manager will fulfill various leadership roles and drive internal technical teams to deliver required technical solutions. The combination of mechanical and electrical engineering product and manufacturing knowledge coupled with CAE analysis tools will be required to accomplish tasks. Further, this technical role will function to promote and aid in the development of next generation technologies within JJE.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for multiple engineering projects either existing or potential.
  • Ensure the design of electrified powertrain systems meet customer specifications.
  • Occasionally lead cross-functional teams.
  • Communicate regularly with customers and suppliers regarding product performance and provide support where necessary.
  • Oversee and advise design validation test set-ups, conditions and post-test evaluations.
  • Establish engineering specifications/engineering best practices.
  • Use analysis and modeling tools to evaluate mechanical and electrical designs.
  • Provide and seek feedback and suggested improvements from the technical teams.
  • Lead engineering reviews, DFMEAs, DFM/DFA, and others.
  • Coordinate customer engineering changes and requests.
  • Support prototype builds and quality engineering functions.
  • Perform additional responsibilities based on hiring manager’s discretion.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering. MS or Phd degree preferred
  • Experience working with electrified products strongly recommended
  • Background with transmission (gearbox) product design, electric motors, power electronics, and electric drive modules, highly desired
  • Manufacturing of driveline and eMotor products, highly desired
  • Prior leadership role with proven results
  • Excellent communication skills both written and spoken
  • SolidWorks or other CAD software experience as well as Simulink or other modeling software applications
  • Business travel – up to 15% domestic and 15% international
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong GD&T and engineering specification knowledge
