Summary:
The Senior Manager, Cost Accounting will own oversight of cost accounting team and related business processes and workflows. They will oversee the cost accounting systems (standard setting, product costing) and related reporting including historical cost data, variance analysis.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain culture of accountability and process driven activities for the cost accounting team.
- Enable meaningful costing estimates of new products born from new formulations or capabilities by working with R&D, Operations, Purchasing and Sales & Marketing.
- Overall responsibility for standard costs, related practices, and adherence for material costs, BOMs, routings, overhead, and supply chain.
- Complete timely and accurate month-end cost accounting and inventory management close responsibilities. Prepare financial reports & analysis for profitability (COGS, product margins), standard costing variances, and inventory valuation.
- Supervise cost accounting team in all responsibilities including, month-end close, product costing support, system implementation and M&A integration.
- Drive efforts around systematic reporting tools to quantify performance/variances to standards and targets.
- Partner with business groups to understand root cause to deliver value-add reporting and analysis.
- Provide consolidated production variance analysis, including bridges; communicate opportunities and engage in corrective action plans.
- Be a key partner for the overall business on financial analysis and action item identification.
- Complete and review inventory-related accruals and balance sheet reconciliations each month ensuring resolution of any issues identified
- Execute and oversee inventory management activities including annual physical inventory counts, cycle counting and managing offsite inventory movements.
- Review, approve and process inventory adjustments and freight invoicing.
- Support the financial planning process to develop and communicate manufacturing costs and inventory elements of the annual operating plan and periodic forecasts.
- Maintain complete, organized, and accurate documentation for areas of responsibilities.
- Monitor and review finished good cost changes from monthly rollup and communicate drivers.
- Own standard cost definitions and adherence for material costs, BOMs, routings, overhead, and supply chain.
- Coordinate and approve planned changes within accounting and/or ERP system.
- Support month-end close by preparing journal entries and account reconciliation.
- Support the development of and create visibility to financial expectations in the product development process. Partner with product management to set financial commitments in business cases and with the project team to achieve committed gross margins, capital and spending expectations and execute process to develop countermeasures if necessary.
- Drive the improvement of select working capital metrics (days inventory) by partnering with supply chain and operations to design and execute processes to support achievement.
- Provide ad-hoc financial analysis and information supporting decision-making to management and other functions throughout the organization.
- Maintain strong internal controls in compliance with company policies in support of annual audits
- Build and maintain a qualified team through innovative hiring, management, and training/development techniques: Implement and manage recruitment and on boarding processes, as required; Perform staff appraisal and performance review processes in line with company policies; Create and maintain professional development plans for direct reports; Set and manage performance goals, standards, and expectations with direct reports in accordance with the company policy.
- Develop, plan, and implement special projects and compile a variety of special reports as assigned.
- Participate in committee or group work to improve financial and/or division/department performance.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding the information being processed, stored, or accessed.
- Oversight of Cost Accountants across the company
- Travel - This job requires occasional travel to other company locations in support of tasks/activities related to audits and/or inventory. (10% or less)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration with a minimum of five (5) years progressive cost accounting experience preferably in a manufacturing environment plus 3+ years’ experience managing a team.
- Proficiency in the use of: Financial systems, Microsoft Office applications & tools, ERP systems. Advanced proficiency in Excel is preferred.
- Knowledge of standard costing required.
