Senior Machine Design Engineer

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the mechanical design process for automated equipment using SolidWorks CAD software, focusing on detailed production drawings, assembly layouts, and technical schematics.
  • Perform tolerance stack analyses to define appropriate manufacturing tolerances ensuring product quality and functionality.
  • Engineer mechanical components and systems that optimize materials, functionality, and manufacturability considerations.
  • Maintain an organized database of engineering drawings and documentation to support manufacturing and operational efficiency.
  • Interpret technical specifications, perform complex engineering calculations, and integrate customer requirements to enhance design precision and utility.
  • Facilitate regular design reviews; collaborate closely with Quality Assurance, Sales, and Manufacturing teams to refine product designs and resolve issues.
  • Engage with vendors, customers, and internal teams during design and project review meetings to ensure stakeholder requirements are met.
  • Apply expertise in fluid power circuits and maintain compliance with safety regulations (OSHA, CE, CSA, etc.) throughout the design process.
  • Cooperate with the controls team to select safety components and ensure system compliance with safety standards.
  • Adhere to ISO 9001 standards, following strict engineering procedures documented by the organization.
  • Efficiently manage multiple project timelines to meet deadlines within a fast-paced engineering environment.
  • Provide support during new system start-ups, conduct training sessions, and offer field service support when necessary.
  • Develop comprehensive operating manuals and generate detailed field service reports.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development and perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in machine design within an industrial setting.
  • Demonstrable proficiency in SolidWorks CAD software or similar solid modeling tools.
  • Thorough knowledge of GD&T principles and their correct implementation in design processes.
  • Proven ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot complex technical drawings and fluid power circuits.
  • Experience designing components and systems with a focus on manufacturability and in-house production capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced certifications or training in CAD design and engineering management.
  • Prior experience implementing ISO 9001 standards in engineering projects.
  • Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
