Senior Land Development Engineer
Our client is seeking a seasoned Site Civil Leader for a strategic leadership role within a well-established, modern, and growing civil engineering practice. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys leading people, managing clients, and owning project outcomes, while remaining technically sharp.
Role Overview
As a leader, you will be responsible for managing a team, clients, and projects simultaneously, while serving as the technical and cultural leader of your group. You will oversee a team of 4–8 engineers, including a secondary team lead, and play a critical role in project execution, staff development, and client relationships.
You will act as the “owner” of your practice area, balancing workload planning, high-level technical oversight, proposals, and team engagement, without the pressure of utilization or billability metrics.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 4–8 site civil professionals
- Manage multiple site civil projects from due diligence through approvals and construction support
- Serve as a primary client contact and trusted advisor
- Identify early project risks and pitfalls during due diligence reviews
- Provide high-level technical oversight and plan review (without being a day-to-day CAD producer)
- Oversee workload planning, scheduling, and project performance
- Participate in business development efforts, including proposals and public meetings
- Maintain strong relationships with contractors, municipalities, and reviewing agencies
- Foster team morale, engagement, and professional growth
Project & Portfolio Mix
- Primarily 2–5 acre single-user retail and commercial projects
- Mix of commercial, residential, and industrial/warehouse developments
- Occasional larger-scale projects
- No single-family residential work
- Projects span multiple New Jersey counties and regulatory jurisdictions
Qualifications
- 6+ years of site civil engineering experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Strong command of New Jersey site civil regulations, including NJDEP and local county approvals
- Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D (hands-on production not required)
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage client relationships
- Confident communicator with experience supporting proposals and approvals
- Construction-phase exposure is a plus, but not required
