Position Overview
The Senior Land Analyst will be an integral contributor to the Land team, responsible for executing and supporting a wide range of land and leasehold functions across the company's Permian Basin asset base. This role sits at the intersection of technical land analysis, title research, lease administration, and transactional support — requiring strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and a working knowledge of upstream land practices in the Permian.
This is a hands-on role suited to a motivated land professional who is ready to take ownership of meaningful work product, contribute across functional areas, and grow within a well-capitalized, relationship-driven organization. The Senior Land Analyst will work closely with the Land Administration Manager, field landmen, legal counsel, and operations to support the company's active drilling program, leasing activity, and A&D transactions. Current platforms in use include iLandman and BOLO.
Key Responsibilities
Lease Analysis & Maintenance
- Analyze, abstract, and maintain oil and gas leases, assignments, and amendments in the company's land management system
- Track primary term expirations, continuous drilling obligations, held-by-production status, depth limitations, and special lease provisions
- Identify and flag at-risk leasehold; support lease renewal, extension, and top leasing initiatives in coordination with field landmen
- Calculate and process lease maintenance payments including shut-in royalties, delay rentals, and minimum royalties
- Interpret and summarize complex lease language and pooling/unitization provisions for internal stakeholders
Title Research & Curative Support
- Research title to oil and gas properties using county deed records, RRC data, and internal ownership files
- Prepare ownership runsheets, chain of title summaries, and working interest / net revenue interest calculations
- Track title requirements from drilling title opinions; assist in gathering and organizing curative documents including affidavits, ratifications, and assignments
- Coordinate with courthouse vendors, abstractors, and outside counsel to obtain missing instruments and complete curative files
- Support the setup of new wells in pay status by providing accurate WI/NRI data to the division order team
Acreage & Mapping Analysis
- Maintain and update acreage position maps and leasehold summaries across the Delaware and Midland sub-basin footprints
- Assist in the preparation of prospect maps, unit plats, and drilling spacing unit analyses in support of the drilling program
- Perform acreage calculations, net acre tallies, and lease ownership summaries for internal reporting and A&D screening
- Utilize GIS tools and internal mapping systems to track acreage positions relative to offsetting operators and activity
Acquisitions & Divestitures Support
- Assist in land due diligence for acquisitions, including lease file review, title gap identification, and leasehold screening
- Support data room preparation and buyer/seller inquiries during divestiture processes
- Help with post-closing integration of acquired leasehold, including system uploads and records organization
- Research competitor acreage positions and recent leasing activity in target areas to support business development efforts
Land Records & Systems
- Maintain accurate and organized lease and contract files — both electronic and physical — in the company's land management system
- Assist in the administration of JOAs, farmout agreements, surface use agreements, and ROW instruments
- Generate routine and ad hoc reports including lease expiration summaries, well-to-lease lookups, and acreage status reports
- Support process improvement initiatives and help ensure data integrity across land records
Qualifications
Required
- 4–8 years of land analysis or land administration experience in upstream oil and gas, with Permian Basin exposure strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of Texas oil and gas leases, conveyance instruments, and basic title concepts
- Experience with lease administration, title research, and/or ownership analysis
- Proficiency with land management software (iLandman, BOLO, or comparable platforms)
- Strong analytical and organizational skills with a high attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite; comfort with data management and reporting
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to interface effectively with internal and external stakeholders in both professional and relaxed environment.
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Land Management, Business, Geology, or a related field; RPL designation or coursework a plus
- Experience with GIS mapping tools (ArcGIS, P2 Merrick, or similar) and county deed record research platforms
- Familiarity with Texas Railroad Commission (RRC) systems and Permian Basin regulatory environment
- Exposure to A&D due diligence or post-closing integration processes
