Job Summary

The Senior Geologist will join our team and support ongoing gold exploration activities at our field operations in Guyana. This is a hands-on, camp-based role, with a focus on core logging, sampling, and providing day-to-day geological support for drilling and exploration programs.

Responsibilities

  • Geological Logging & Mapping: Assist with comprehensive logging and mapping, including lithology, structure, alteration, mineralization, and core photograph interpretation.
  • Exploration Program Management: Plan, organize, and execute exploration programs (soil, saprolite, drilling, geophysics, etc.).
  • Sampling & QA/QC: Organize and oversee marking, sampling, and QA/QC procedures; ensure proper sample handling, labeling, and chain-of-custody.
  • Structural & Geotechnical Data: Record and interpret oriented core and structural measurements; maintain geotechnical records (density, RQD, recovery, met-test, geotechnical holes).
  • Database & Documentation: Maintain accurate geological logs, sample records, and databases; support reporting, data compilation, interpretation, and presentation.
  • Team Supervision & Coordination: Supervise and collaborate with the geotechnical team; coordinate with drill crews and support field mapping, trenching, and sampling programs.
  • Administrative Support: Assist geological staff with budgeting, reporting, and data management as required.
  • Data Analysis & Visualization: Use geological software (e.g., Leapfrog, ArcGIS) to analyze and visualize exploration data; generate maps, cross-sections, and 3D models.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all exploration activities comply with local, regional, and national regulations, including permitting and environmental impact assessments.
  • Training & Mentoring: Provide guidance and training to junior geologists, technicians, and field assistants.
  • Equipment & Logistics: Oversee the maintenance and calibration of field equipment; coordinate logistics for field campaigns.
  • Report Writing: Prepare technical reports, summaries, and presentations for management
  • Stakeholder Communication: Liaise with internal teams, contractors, and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on project objectives and timelines.
  • Compliance & Safety: Strictly adhere to health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times.
  • Field Safety Leadership: Act as a safety representative in the field, conducting risk assessments and promoting a culture of safety among team members.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
  • Fieldwork: Willingness and ability to work in remote exploration camps; comfortable with a 3 weeks on/1 week off rotation.
  • Personal Attributes: Strong attention to detail, eagerness to learn, and physical fitness for demanding field conditions.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in geological software (e.g., Target, MapInfo, QGIS, Leapfrog, Datamine) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word). Experience with other relevant software is a plus.
Experience
  • Prior 10 years’ experience with field gold exploration in Guyana in private sector (no alluvial mining)
  • Field experience includes core, trench logging, RC-AC-RAB drilling, soil and saprolite geochemistry or other types of mineral exploration
  • Experience working in interior Guyana or similar environments
  • Valid driver’s license (Guyana)
