Position Overview
We are seeking a Field Service Technician to support the testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of low-, medium-, and high-voltage power distribution equipment for commercial and industrial customers. This role involves hands-on field work focused on equipment reliability, operational safety, and system performance. The team performs electrical testing in accordance with recognized industry standards and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform field testing, inspection, maintenance, and related service work on low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical distribution equipment.
- Conduct electrical testing and calibration activities on equipment such as:
- Instrument transformers
- Power transformers, including insulation resistance, transformer turns ratio, and Doble testing
- Power cable systems, including tests such as power factor, Tan Delta, VLF, and hipot
- Low-, medium-, and high-voltage circuit breakers and switchgear
- Primary and secondary injection systems
- Protective relays, including both electromechanical and solid-state devices
- Continuity and ground fault systems
- Power quality-related equipment and issues
- Troubleshoot, inspect, start up, and gather operational data on equipment including switchgear, circuit breakers, cables, transformers, protective relays, variable frequency drives, and automatic transfer switches.
- Perform service and repair activities, including diagnosing equipment issues, replacing components, recommending corrective actions, and returning equipment to service.
- Follow all required safety procedures and safe work practices, including lockout/tagout requirements.
- Contribute to a collaborative team environment by supporting coworkers and helping achieve shared project goals.
- Communicate technical findings, equipment issues, and recommended solutions clearly to customers.
- Prepare and complete field service documentation and test reports for work performed.
Qualifications
- Some hands-on experience testing low- and medium-voltage switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, and/or protective relays is required.
- NETA certification at Level II or III, or IV is strongly preferred, or equivalent background with the ability to work toward certification.
- Experience with PowerDB is an advantage.
- Good communication skills and a professional customer service approach are required.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, equipment manuals, and safety procedures.
- Must be able to work flexible schedules, including overtime, weekends, and on-call assignments when needed.
- Must have a valid, unrestricted driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
- Must have at least 3 years of driving experience.
