Position Summary

The Senior Estimating Manager will support & manage the team to provide estimates, on behalf of the Manufacturing function, of the material, labour, support and non-recurring setup, tooling and test equipment costs relating to the build of new product and repeat build of existing product. To do this the estimating manager will work closely with the Procurement, Industrial Engineering, Test Engineering, Engineering Design and Manufacturing teams.

These estimates will be used to provide prices for customers, set budgets for programmes and advise design teams developing new products.

The individual preferably has a strong machining & technical background & experience in the Aerospace sector. The role will support the Commercial team functions of evaluating & bidding for new work packages, as well as managing Spares Order book demand & satisfying any additional adhoc commercial input for internal/external customers.

Essential Responsibilities

• Ensuring the scope of work is clearly defined and all necessary technical documentation is obtained.
• Managing enquiry briefs and action plans, evaluating technical data and drawings.
• Ensuring all quotations/proposals are completed in accordance with commercial procedures and Department KPI’s.
• Ensuring all quotations/proposals are completed in accordance with commercial procedures including the evaluation and calculation of the optimum manufacturing processes and materials for all quotations/proposals.
• Evaluating technical data and drawings to accurately compile Bid data.
• Ability to recognise & identify any business risks associated to bids.
• Review and verify the accuracy of commercial documentation received (e.g. customer Purchase Orders) to confirm compliance to quotation as part of the Contract Review procedure and with regard to pro-forma invoices.
• Ensuring ALL duties performed meet end customers timeframes for delivery. (Internal stakeholders & External Customers)
• Be able to investigate & apply new technologies to ensure best bid solution is met in line with bid strategy.
• Manage the Commercial estimating team in support of all responsibilities, objectives & targets set by the business, & work with the European Corporate Director in support of the Strategic Plan.
• Support the Commercial and Technical teams with any Change Control management to ensure additional business costs are identified and recharged in accordance with commercial terms.
• Be a confident communicator & an active member of ALL Commercial needs/discussions/meetings.
• Ensure that system data is updated accordingly to facilitate business management.
• Carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required within the jobholder’s capability consistent with the Terms and Conditions of employment.
• The ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, bills of materials, manufacturing process design and routings.
• Review and verify the accuracy of commercial documentation received.
• In conjunction with the Planning Engineers and Business managers, conduct the analysis of ‘actual versus planned’ for work carried out to maintain profitability.
• Bid preparation/submission as defined by the Business Development / Commercial team.
• The ability to establish costs by analogy with established costed designs.

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years in an Engineering / Machining Aerospace background.

5 + Years across different functions including Commercial & machining exposure.

Key Competencies:

Ability to read & understand technical drawings / data. Understanding of current day machining practices & technologies.

Ability to work well under pressure with a keen eye for detail. Able to manage several tasks in parallel.

Other Skills/ Abilities/ Personal Attributes:

Skills: Computer literate with good understanding of all MS Office products & the ability to demonstrate this. Must have Excel experience.

Abilities: Must be able to work at times on own initiative & thinking. Supervision / Guidance / Training will be given when required, but the individual needs to have sufficient experience to start in this role without one to one shadowing.

Personal Attributes: Confident individual with drive & ambition. Respectful to others at all times.

Skills: Intermediate user of all MS Office products with particular ability in MS Excel / PowerPoint / Project / Visio.

Abilities: Able to work autonomously to a high standard with reliable delivery to timescales. Sometimes this may be from another location to normal office.





Personal Attributes: An individual who can draw upon experience & challenge current thinking or working patterns. This may be with higher level management in review discussions.
