Senior Electrical Design Engineer - Smart Grid Technology

We are seeking a visionary Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead design, development, testing and support of next-generation smart grid products. As an industry leading manufacturer of electrical power utility products, our technology ensures the reliability and smart functionality of the electrical grid system. This pivotal role involves engineering high-level controller products embedded with microprocessor-based controls, tailor-made for power distribution automation. This is a management position entailing leadership of a dynamic engineering team.

Salary: DOE per year

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of conceptual and detailed product models tailored for smart grid applications.
  • Orchestrate, execute, and document comprehensive verification and validation test plans to ensure products meet rigorous standards.
  • Engineer advanced microprocessor-based controls for products such as capacitor controls, source transfer controls, and switchgear controls.
  • Develop robust electronic systems for grid intelligence, including innovative analog and power supply designs.
  • Contribute to the development of packaging, user documentation, safety labels, and product markings ensuring compliance and practicality.
  • Manage First Article Inspections and ensure parts meet specified quality standards concerning form, fit, and functionality.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 7 to 10 years of hands-on experience in the design, development, and testing of electromechanical products.
  • Proficient in circuit board layout for analog and mixed signal applications.
  • Skilled in transitioning new electronic products from conception to manufacturing.
  • Extensive experience in designing with various components like PCBAs, cable harnesses, and metallic electrical contacts.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks for 3D CAD modeling including expertise in sheet metal, plastics, and cable assemblies.
  • Knowledgeable in tolerance stack-up analysis and capable of applying this knowledge practically.
  • Familiar with regulatory standards such as IEC, UL, CSA, NEMA, and the National Electric Code.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using simulation tools for finite element analysis and thermal management.
  • A solid understanding of EMI/EMC implications and thermal impacts on electronic products.
  • Background in designing packaging for electronic equipment to enhance product safety and durability.
