GeneCoda has been retained to identify and evaluate candidates for a Director / Senior Director of Medicinal Chemistry to ideally be located on the Eastern Time Zone of the US or Canada.

Our client is seeking an accomplished Director / Senior Director of Medicinal Chemistry with a proven reputation in small molecule drug discovery including leading teams that have driven assets to IND enabling studies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and drive innovative drug discovery strategies utilizing deep expertise across medicinal chemistry and synthetic chemistry route design, through comprehensive knowledge of DMPK, pharmacology, and safety.
  • Efficiently and expertly drive multi-parameter optimization across multiple projects and across multiple disease areas from hit ID through candidate selection.
  • Lead each drug discovery project team, driving scientific strategy & decision-making, target design & synthesis.
  • Support business development activities through engagement with partners, conference attendance, support the development of case studies, white papers, and marketing material.
  • Prepare research and cost proposals for services.
  • Develop creative solutions to challenging program issues. Contribute as a senior medicinal chemist to scientific problem solving for partners and internal teams.
  • Supervise externalized resources at CROs to expeditiously deliver high quality research results.
  • Supervise internal Project Chemistry Team Leaders, medicinal chemists, and synthetic chemists.

Education: PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry or related field.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience as a medicinal chemist at a pharmaceutical or biotech company.
  • Demonstrated success as a drug hunter with significant contributions to advancing multiple drug discovery programs from initial hits to development candidates.
  • Experience leading drug discovery project teams.
  • Highly proficient in synthetic and medicinal chemistry. Experience with SBDD, FBDD, DEL, protein degradation, and/or other technology platforms is highly desirable.
  • Strong track record of external publication and presentations demonstrating scientific innovation.
  • Hands-on industrial experience in synthetic chemistry and experience supervising bench chemists is preferred.
