Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Vice President of Safety for a national transportation provider.
The Senior Director, Safety hires, assigns the duties of 52 direct & Indirect reports. Develops or approves and implements all safety programs, policies, and safety training programs to include written accident & injury reduction / loss prevention program, Dock safety, Vehicle accident prevention, Forklift safety, Hazardous Materials Handling, Hazard communication and employee right to know, Hours of Service, ELD measurements and compliance. Receives all vehicle accident reports and determine preventability of same. Reviews all appeals of accidents determined to be preventable and if not changed, forward appeal to the internal accident review committee for final decision. Be familiar with all serious accidents and work closely with the liability department and legal counsel to assist with defense in any litigation. Be available as Company Witness or 30(b)6 corporate representative as needed for deposition or court appearances when necessary. Maintains and monitors company-wide compliance with all federal motor carrier safety regulations and state occupational safety & health (OSHA) administration regulations. Insures that driver employee files/accident documentation are maintained as required by federal and state regulations and company policies. Uses business intelligence and data analytics to drive decision making. Controls and maintains confidentiality of all safety files and records. Screen drivers and dock worker applicants as needed. Ensure compliance and policy implementation regarding Department of Labor (state and federal) changes in Employee Rights & Regulations.

- Fleet size – multiple locations (1000 trucks)

- DOT/ FMCSA, OSHA, EPA
- Implemented safety programs & policies
- Accident avoidance technology & application for driver safety
- Developed safety incentives & awards for drivers
- Developed compliance programs & processes to measure & monitor company’s safety records against industry benchmarks-best practices
- Education: Bachelor’s degree (i.e., Supply Chain, Logistics or Transportation, Business Management, Business Intelligence)
- Residence: Columbus, OH (relocation assistance)
