Designs, develops or redesigns new or existing gas burning furnace products. Works from requirements or instructions to design and develop new components or redesign existing components to improve the organization’s products. Determines and establishes specifications through engineering calculations and layouts. May oversee assembly and tests of engineering prototypes. Communicates with vendors to obtain information and assistance. Ensures products meet all gas appliance safety standards as well as industry accepted product durability and safe operation for the expected life of the product.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all required product safety testing is done correctly, passing industry recognized safety tests for gas appliances.
  • Ensure on-time completion of accurate and high quality gas furnace projects within agreed upon budget.
  • Development and sustaining engineering activities in support of Gas Furnace and Gas Packaged Product Development.
  • Develop and manage project schedules related to new and existing product designs.
  • Create, revise, and sustain HVAC product designs, utilizing knowledge of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Analyze product designs using tolerance, thermodynamic, finite element, and combustion data analyses.
  • Analyze test data as well as the method and type of data collected to understand it in a deep meaningful way.
  • Document product designs by preparing bills of materials, cost analyses, drawings, and engineering change requests.
  • Assist in redesigning major gas furnace components to improve system quality, improve efficiency and reduce cost.
  • Develop Engineering solutions to product related issues through problem solving and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Participate on cross functional teams to launch products, resolve issues, and support product improvements.
  • Participate on project planning sessions and develop aggressive yet realistic project deadlines.
  • Coordinate project work internally with the department and externally with other departments.
  • Work with suppliers to improve quality and resolve product issues.
  • Assist Manufacturing with product launches and issue resolution.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects related to product design and quality.
  • Proactive project management, always looking for obstacles of on time delivery ahead of time and avoid them if possible.
  • Proactive learning from each project. What went well? What did not go well? Then apply those lessons to the next project.
  • Proactive communication with all departments impacted by the projects you are assigned.
  • Proactively check the work you provide as well as others.
  • Proactively seek advice and analyze resources needed to accomplish on time, high quality projects within budget.
  • Proactively manage the Engineering Change Request (ECR) process for ECR’s you are responsible for.
  • Assist your supervisor and fellow team members as needed.
  • Become a Certified Gas Engineer from the American Society of Gas Engineers
  • Perform other job duties as required by Supervisor.
