This prestigious AmLaw 50 law firm is seeking a Senior Counsel for Energy Regulation to join its acclaimed Energy Practice Group. The role focuses on providing expert legal counsel in federal and state energy regulatory issues, especially within the renewable energy sectors, including solar, wind, storage, and emerging technologies like hydrogen and electric vehicles. This position represents a significant opportunity to participate in high-level strategic work, shape the future of energy law, and work directly with clients on cutting-edge projects.
Salary: $350,000 - $475,000 per year
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice on federal and state regulatory matters affecting renewable energy and energy transition projects.
- Counsel clients on project development, financing, and acquisition transactions to ensure compliance with appropriate regulations.
- Negotiate and draft critical project documents, including power purchase agreements, interconnection agreements, and shared facility agreements.
- Assist clients through the regulatory approval processes and advising on compliance issues.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to innovate solutions for complex energy projects, enhancing project development and execution.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
- JD from an ABA-approved law school with a strong academic record.
- Active Bar Admission in CA, WI, or DC.
- At least 8 years of experience in federal and state energy regulatory matters, focusing on renewable energy and transition sectors.
- Proven ability to manage complex development and financing transactions in the energy sector.
- Expertise in negotiating and reviewing power purchase agreements, interconnection agreements, and other key project documents.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with oil & gas regulatory matters is considered a plus.
- Familiarity with equity and debt financing structures, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory compliance issues.
- Strong experience advising developers, sponsors, lenders, and investors on regulatory aspects of energy projects.
