Position Summary

  • The Senior Business Analyst, Engineering Systems, is responsible for supporting product development engineering teams (and associated Engineering Councils) with technical aspects of process development as well as associated I.T. systems and tools.
  • They must understand the corporate product development strategy to ensure processes and associated systems/tools effectively support the strategy and enable global product development.
  • The Senior Business Analyst will also be responsible for technical aspects of applications development activities supporting Engineering product development in such areas as Computer Aided Engineering (CAE), Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). This includes selection/installation/configuration of commercially available software or development of custom applications where no suitable alternative exists.
  • They are also responsible for engineering data management, integration and storage techniques to ensure cost-effective use of engineering data
  • Familiarity with the following Engineering Systems:
    • PLM – Siemens Teamcenter
    • CAD – Catia, NX, Creo, Autocad, Solid Edge, Solidworks
    • CAE – Abaqus, Hyperworks, Star-CCM, Matlab/Simulink
    • Custom App Development – MVC architecture

Business Relationships

  • Understands Engineering’s key product development strategies and business initiatives to make recommendations for IT solutions and process improvements that will align with the global strategy
  • Works with senior Engineering leaders/staff to provide guidance on the following:
    • Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) tools and technical infrastructure
    • Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools and technical infrastructure
    • Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Product Data Management (PDM) tools and technical infrastructure

IT Strategy

  • Determines opportunities for Engineering improvement through the use of information technology and advocates these opportunities to the Engineering leadership as well as the IT leadership
  • Assists the Sr. Manager, Engineering Systems with application roadmaps to facilitate long range planning and budgeting

Application Development

  • Determines the functional and technical feasibility of proposed IT systems to support Engineering processes
  • Reviews functional and technical aspects of commercial software packages to assess suitability to meet the functions’ needs
  • Assists with requirements, analysis and process design for custom software development where commercially available alternatives are not suitable
  • Determines appropriate techniques for data management, integration, and storage to ensure segmentation of key intellectual property and compliance with data classification

Program and Project Governance

  • Services as a technical staff member on PMO led programs/projects delivering Engineering applications
  • Assists in supplier selection and management, especially technical qualification of suppliers

General IT Management

  • Understanding of IT Strategy and Architecture general principles and techniques
  • Understanding of IT Program and Project Management as well as Application Development general principles and techniques
  • Assists the Sr. Manager with managing third-party vendor relationship, including coordinate of software upgrades, improvements, and vendor provided fixes as required



Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in a related discipline, such as Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science or Management or 8+ years of relevant professional experience. Masters degree in relevant discipline is highly preferred.


  • 5 - 7 years experience in engineering, process improvement or information technology related to complex manufacturing industries (automotive, aerospace, etc.). Experience in engineering systems (CAE, CAD, CAM, PLM, etc.). Exposure to global product
  • development and concurrent engineering techniques. Experience with High Performance Computing and associated tools for Finite Element Analysis, Thermal Analysis, Stress Analysis or other modeling/simulation.

Language Skills

  • English (fluency in reading, writing and speaking); other language skills helpful

  • Strong technology acumen; familiar with key concepts around data, applications and infrastructure
  • Strong understanding of major engineering tool suites from vendors such as Siemens, Dassault Systemes and PTC
  • Understanding of systems requirements gathering and management techniques
  • Familiarity with engineering data and data management techniques
  • Process design skills; understands process analysis/design tools and techniques
  • Familiarity with relevant information standards, such as JT Open, STEP/ISO 10303 and ISA-95
  • Stakeholder management skills; builds strong relationships with business and IT executives
