Senior Accountant – Residential Real Estate

Overview

A growing residential real estate company is seeking a Senior Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations and ensure accurate financial reporting across a portfolio of properties. This role will work closely with leadership and property management teams to maintain strong financial controls and deliver timely insights into business performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of residential properties, including general ledger maintenance and account reconciliations
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Prepare and review financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports
  • Analyze variances between actuals and budget, providing clear explanations to management
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including rent rolls and tenant billing
  • Track and reconcile property-level expenses, capital expenditures, and operating costs
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning for assigned properties
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies
  • Support external audits and coordinate with third-party accountants or auditors as needed
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3–6+ years of accounting experience, preferably within real estate or property management
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and financial reporting
  • Experience with property management or real estate accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, AppFolio) preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities

Preferred Experience

  • Residential real estate or property management accounting background
  • Experience handling multiple entities or property portfolios
  • CPA or CPA-track is a plus
