Senior Accountant – Residential Real Estate
Overview
A growing residential real estate company is seeking a Senior Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations and ensure accurate financial reporting across a portfolio of properties. This role will work closely with leadership and property management teams to maintain strong financial controls and deliver timely insights into business performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of residential properties, including general ledger maintenance and account reconciliations
- Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Prepare and review financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports
- Analyze variances between actuals and budget, providing clear explanations to management
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including rent rolls and tenant billing
- Track and reconcile property-level expenses, capital expenditures, and operating costs
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning for assigned properties
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies
- Support external audits and coordinate with third-party accountants or auditors as needed
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3–6+ years of accounting experience, preferably within real estate or property management
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and financial reporting
- Experience with property management or real estate accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, AppFolio) preferred
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
Preferred Experience
- Residential real estate or property management accounting background
- Experience handling multiple entities or property portfolios
- CPA or CPA-track is a plus
