Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the VP Ocean Freight for a world class logistics organization that provides air, ocean, customs brokerage, trade solutions and supply chain services throughout the world. With over 21,000 associates in 34 countries, our client strives to ensure that customer requirements are met with the highest quality service and seeks to develop mutually rewarding relationships with team members, partners, and suppliers.

The Sales Manager – Ocean will be responsible to recruit and develop a high performing sales team specifically with an ocean sales background focused on achieving revenue and volume targets. Will formulate and develop comprehensive business plans and ensure attainment of revenue and margin/yield goals for assigned accounts. Will address sales growth and competitive pricing strategies while coordinating activities to engage customers at a senior level to assess satisfaction, manage critical situations with at-risk accounts, and ensure a proactive approach to customer needs. The Sales Manager will collaborate across functional areas in development of solutions, proposals, and pricing models to include attending sales calls to further define the opportunity and develop the value proposition for account closure. Additionally, will manage the proposal and presentation process and provide weekly reporting on all accounts in stages for new business development.

Background Required:
  • Freight forwarding sales experience (10 years)
  • Ocean freight forwarding (5 years)
  • Proven track record in sales staff development and training (5 years)
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve major account sales goals
  • Ability to plan, develop and implement major customer sales strategies
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of CRM systems, sales data analysis, forecasting & planning
  • Ability to travel 50%
  • Computer literate: Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, & Outlook
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree
  • Residence: USA (major freight forwarding hubs)
Background Preferred (but not required):
  • Strong knowledge of ocean import processes
  • Experience selling to C-suite
  • Advanced Degree – MBA
