Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the VP – Safety & Compliance of a well-respected bulk transportation carrier established in 1970 and consisting of a total fleet of 550 company drivers and owner operators. This division was purchased and merged in 2006. Services include both regional and long-haul liquid & dry bulk chemical transport, transloading and custom lease solutions. Hauling both hazardous and non-hazardous materials across the U.S. and Canada with 20 LTC locations, their focus is to provide premier transport services with a specific focus on maintaining high safety standards and continuous improvement across their safety regions. Liquid Transport is a 3rd party certified PARTNER company in the American Chemistry Council’s Responsible Care® Program.
The Safety Director will direct the transportation safety management process and provides overall support and guidance to the operations team. The Director coordinates with senior leadership in crafting short- and long-term strategies in building a culture of safety within the organization. The Director introduces and oversees systems and activities to maintain oversight of regulatory compliance status; provides training and professional development for management and drivers; coordinates and manages the crash management process; conducts audits and inspections of the transportation safety management process and monitors and reports metrics and indices reflecting performance. The Safety Director must be able to effectively lead and persuade others and possess excellent communications skills. Responsible for 7-9 direct reports, 500+ drivers, and 20 LTC facilities. They will oversee DOT & OSHA compliance, equipment, and facilities including training of personnel, driver e-log comprehension, accident management, and facilities review. Assist with Responsible Care® Partner certification efforts. Challenge is to seek continuous environmental, health, safety and security performance improvement in all areas of their operation as well as to ensure compliance of all regulatory requirements and maintain one of the safest fleets in the industry.

Background Required:
  • Transportation safety leadership
  • Minimum fleet size (200+ tractors)
  • Safety & environmental regulations (OSHA, DOT, FMCSA) (federal, state, & local)
  • Electronic driver log administration and compliance (Peoplenet preferred)

Background Preferred (but not required):
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent safety education
  • Bulk tank transportation experience
  • Certified Director of Safety (NATMI, NASP)
  • American Chemistry Council Responsible Care® Partner Program Coordinator
