Safety Director — Crane, Rigging & Deep Foundation Contractor — Boise, ID

Our client, a long-established crane, rigging, and deep-foundation contractor serving Idaho and the Intermountain West, is hiring a Safety Director to own health, safety, and regulatory compliance across the entire business — both the crane and rigging side and the drilling and deep-foundation side. This role reports directly to the owners, and it is built as a career seat: they want someone who plants roots and grows with the company, not a stepping stone.

This is not a build-from-scratch job. Their safety program, SOPs, and documentation are already in place and their recordable incident history is strong. They are looking for someone to own it, run it, and keep that record intact — not someone to design a program from zero. The outgoing Safety Director is retiring but staying on part-time as a consultant, so you inherit the role with a real handoff and someone to lean on.

What You'll Do

Own the safety program across crane/rigging and drilling/deep-foundation operations
Lead incident response and investigation hands-on — including accompanying injured employees to medical appointments. This is a boots-on-the-ground role, not a desk seat
Run site audits on new jobs — you are not stationed on any single job site
Deliver practical testing and certification for forklifts and aerial lifts
Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations
Manage workers' compensation, return-to-work, and injury prevention programs
Own safety documentation and reporting — the company is moving its safety documentation onto HCSS HeavyJob
Deliver training, orientations, and continuing education; partner with operations on hazard controls
Potential opportunity to help the company become certified to administer NCCCO practical testing

What They're Looking For

5+ years of progressive safety leadership in construction
Solid construction safety experience matters more than crane or drilling specifics. This is a niche business and they fully expect a learning curve — anyone stepping in learns their operation. Do not self-select out for lack of crane or foundation background
Real depth in incident management, investigation, and root cause analysis
Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety management systems
Bachelor's in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related field — or equivalent experience
Valid driver's license; willingness to travel to job sites, including occasional overnights
Preferred: CSP, CHST, or ASP; OSHA 500 / Outreach Trainer; DOT compliance and fleet safety experience

Compensation & Benefits

$98,000 – $110,000 depending on experience — negotiable for the right background
