Our client is a well-established developer of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) systems and is quickly moving forward towards scaling up production and commercialization. Expanding their SOFC power sources into existing and new portable applications, the company has asked JobsinFuelCells to help them find and hire an SOFC Mechanical Systems Development Engineer to be an integral part of a team dedicated to the design, fabrication and optimization of small scale SOFC units. Your experience in SOFC systems and balance of plant (BOP) design will ensure your success in this role. Working in our Pittsburgh-area office, you will contribute to the design of major projects from various markets around the country.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
On a daily or routine basis, the SOFC Mechanical Systems Development Engineer will be responsible for:
Mechanical design and integration of the solid oxide fuel cell stack, components and unit subsystems
Optimization of system components packaging within the unit to minimize product size and enhance product performance.
Balance of Plant (BOP) systems development and optimization
Participating in weekly planning discussions in regard to status of work in progress.
Generating regular progress reports and collate relevant advances in field.
Keeping supervisor informed on a regular basis on development status.
Complying with state and federal health, safety, fire and environmental policies.
Insuring good housekeeping practices within the working area.
Actively participating in safety awareness and incident investigations as assigned.
Working overtime as required.
We expect qualified candidates will have the following qualifications and experience:
Bachelors in Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Masters Degree preferred)
Expertise in small scale SOFC stack and system design.
Expertise in mechanical design.
Expertise in material science.
Experience with product design, prototype build, and experimental testing
Experience in heat transfer and thermal distribution through materials.
Experience gas flow characterization.
Experience in fixture design for process improvement and control
Experience in Automated Process Equipment Design
Experience in SolidWorks modeling program is required.
Experience in Microsoft Office package (incl. Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Ability to operate in a small team with a minimum of supervision.
COMPENSATION Compensation is commensurate with experience. No sponsorship is available. Must be authorized to work in the United States.
