Job Description
The SAP Project Manager is responsible for leading the successful delivery of strategic SAP initiatives, including the SAP S/4HANA upgrade and migration to SAP RISE. Acting as the primary project manager, this role partners closely with business stakeholders, IT teams, and implementation partners to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with business objectives.
The SAP Project Manager develops and maintains project plans, coordinates resources, manages risks and issues, drives key decisions, and ensures successful execution of all project activities. This role is accountable for delivering business outcomes by maintaining alignment with project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and organizational objectives, while ensuring effective communication, governance, and stakeholder engagement throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the planning, execution, monitoring, and successful closure of complex SAP initiatives, including the SAP S/4HANA upgrade from 1909 to 2023/2025 and migration to SAP RISE.
• Serve as the primary Project Manager, partnering closely with the implementation partner's Project Manager to ensure alignment, accountability, and successful delivery.
• Manage cross-functional delivery teams, including IT teams, business SMEs, testing teams, and third-party vendors, to achieve high-quality project outcomes.
• Develop and maintain the project plan, resource strategy, delivery approach, governance framework, and key milestones in alignment with the approved business case and project charter.
• Identify project risks proactively, develop and execute mitigation strategies, and escalate concerns before they become critical issues.
• Drive delivery performance and execution against approved scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including executive sponsors, business leaders, IT leadership, and implementation partners.
• Proactively manage scope, schedule, budget, and resource changes, assessing impacts on project objectives, business operations, and contractual commitments.
• Escalate issues appropriately and drive timely resolutions to minimize business disruption and project delivery impacts.
• Ensure adherence to project governance standards, delivery methodologies, and organizational policies, including compliance with Bioventus SDLC, SOX GMP/GAMP practices, and the PM Guidebook.
• Manage project risks, assumptions, dependencies, decisions, and interrelated workstreams across multiple projects and operational initiatives.
• Facilitate effective decision-making by providing clear recommendations, impact assessments, and resolution options to project stakeholders.
• Coach and mentor project team members to foster accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and high performance.
• Lead project status reporting and executive communications, clearly articulating progress, priorities, risks, issues, decisions, and changes to project plans.
• Drive successful project closure, including completion of deliverables, stakeholder acceptance and sign-off, operational readiness, cutover planning, hypercare support, and knowledge
transfer.
Education, Experience & Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
• 8+ years of project management experience with at least one full implementation of SAP s4 HANA programs and projects, may include leading SAP S/4HANA upgrades, cloud migrations (including SAP RISE)
• Proven success leading complex cross-functional initiatives, including multiple full lifecycle implementations, upgrades, migrations, and transformation programs.
• Hands-on functional knowledge of one or more SAP modules (e.g., Finance, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Procurement, Sales, or Quality Management) is preferred.
• Experience with SAP Activate methodology and standardized project delivery frameworks.
• Strong experience managing project scope, schedule, budget, resources, risks, issues, dependencies, and stakeholder expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, drive accountability, and coordinate activities across business, IT, implementation partners, and third-party vendors.
• Experience working with distributed global teams across multiple time zones, including hybrid, remote, and offshore delivery models.
• Experience managing enterprise software implementations and upgrades, including SAP, Workday, reporting and analytics platforms, Learning Management Systems (LMS), JIRA, Kinaxis, IQVIA services, or similar business applications.
• Functional experience supporting Finance, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and other business process transformation initiatives.
• Working knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) processes, controls, and associated project deliverables.
• Working knowledge of Computer System Validation (CSV) requirements and experience delivering projects within regulated environments such as medical devices, healthcare, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other regulated industries.
• Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools, including Smartsheet, SharePoint, Microsoft Project, Microsoft 365, and related solutions.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to navigate complex and rapidly changing project environments.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and delivery excellence.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision while providing leadership, direction, and guidance to project teams.
• Experience contributing to strategic planning, roadmap development, and the execution of enterprise transformation initiatives.
• Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and executive communication skills.
• PMP, SAP Project Management, or other relevant project management certifications are preferred.
