POSITION SUMMARY:
The Rural Health Physician reports to the Rural Health Clinic Medical Director and the Clinic Manager. The ideal candidate will be committed to delivering comprehensive primary care to a diverse patient population, including families, children and elderly patients. The role requires a physician who is passionate about community health, quality patient care and who thrives in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited medical school.
- Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or related specialty is preferred
- Valid California medical license with no restrictions
- 5+ years of primary care experience
- Experience in a rural or underservices setting is highly desirable

Specific Duties and Competencies:
- Balance the responsibilities of patient care and clinical administrative duties, including timely charting.
- Ensure patients receive the highest standard of medical care in compliance with all relevant regulations and safety standards.
- Participate in quality improvements efforts, including performance improvement and risk management activities to enhance patient services and reduce adverse outcomes.
- Foster a collaborative atmosphere that promotes teamwork and excellence among staff.
- Ensure that all healthcare regulations and safety standards are met.
- Keep staff informed about new healthcare regulations and standards.
- Identify opportunities for improving clinical services and operational efficiency.
- Conduct chart reviews and provide supervision for nurse practitioners and physician assistants as needed, ensuring guidance in the absence of the medical director.
- Provide comprehensive primary care services, including preventative care, chronic disease management, acute care, and mental health services.
- Perform thorough patient evaluations, including physical examinations, medical histories, and diagnostic investigations.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and evidence-based practices.
- Maintain acute and up-to-date electronic medical records (EMR) for all patients.
- Collaborate with nursing staff, specialists, and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated and holistic patient care.
- Educate patients and families on health management, preventative care and medication adherence.
- Attend RHC department meetings and participate in quarterly Medical Executive staff meetings.
- Participate in administrative, marketing, promotion, and medical education activities related to MMHD operations.
- Document Quality Improvement Program measures accurately to meet established standards and ensure consistent patient care.
- Consider applying for privileges to provide care in hospitals and long-term care facilities to ensure continuity of care.
- Stay current with medical guidelines and advancements in primary care to enhance service delivery and patient outcomes.
- Other duties typical to the role as assigned.

- Wears identification while on duty.
- Attends annual evaluation and participates actively in this process.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Willingness to work beyond normal working hours and in other positions temporarily when necessary.
- Is involved with personnel, visitors and government agencies, etc., when necessary.
- Must function independently, have personal integrity, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with other personnel, clients and support agencies.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Sits, stands, bends, lifts, walks and moves intermittently during working hours.
- Able to lift 20 lbs.
