Reliability Engineer
Summary:
Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Mechanical Reliability Engineer will work closely with the Maintenance Planner and Projects Engineer to establish engineering priorities and corrective maintenance projects. The ideal candidate will focus mainly in the mechanical department with cross-functional teamwork within electrical and automation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Comply with company safety rules and regulations and wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds. Safety equipment means clothing and apparatus including, but not limited to hardhat, safety glasses, ear protection, safety shoes, back support belts, gloves and respirators.
- Champion predictive maintenance. The reliability engineer will optimize the type and implementation strategies for vibration, tribology, thermography, and other PdM tasks.
- Provide engineering support for technical projects. This will include but not be limited to design and evaluation of motors, pumps, and various other rotating equipment/devices.
- Implement and maintain non-destructive testing program.
- Provide engineering and troubleshooting for equipment as needed.
- Aid in the development of standard procedures and job scopes for technical tasks.
- Develop and maintain tracking data for wear components in the plant to facilitate scheduled changes during major overhauls.
- Maintain monthly KPI’s for the maintenance department and present action plans to maintenance manager.
- Lead root cause analysis after failures to develop long-term solutions for plant problems.
- Function as one of two primary administrators for the computerized maintenance management system. This includes input and review of preventative maintenance tasks, work orders, and requisitions.
- Aid in the development of the annual budgets for outages, capital expenditures and other activities.
- Develop and administer trainings as necessary.
Competencies:
- Interpretation of engineering and construction drawings.
- Basic mechanical knowledge of rotating equipment and their components (Bearings, gears, motors, pumps, etc).
- Understanding of hydraulics/pneumatics.
- Understanding of pipe flow and compressible fluid flow.
- Proficient at Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint.
Other Qualifications:
- Must be experienced with Predictive and Preventative Maintenance activities.
- Must be able to work during off-shift hours, nights or weekends as required by the plant.
- Must be able to work in hot/cold environments for extended periods. The engineer often oversees work in the field and can be required to be outside >50% of the day.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical discipline with a preference given to mechanical engineering.
- 3-5 years maintenance experience preferred.
