Monday through Friday: The first 8 hours worked are paid at straight time. Hours worked over 8 and up to 12 hours are paid at overtime. Hours worked over 12 hours are paid at double time.

Monday through Friday travel: Travel time is paid at straight time.

Saturday: Labor hours are paid at overtime. Travel time on Saturday is also paid at overtime.

Sunday: Labor hours and travel time are paid at double time.

Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and dependable Relay Technician with a strong work ethic and a positive, team-oriented attitude. This position is responsible for the testing, commissioning, calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of protective relays and related electrical systems in substations, power generation facilities, and industrial settings.
The successful candidate will have hands-on experience with both electromechanical and microprocessor-based protective relays, along with a strong understanding of applicable industry standards, including IEEE, NETA, and NFPA.
Responsibilities

Install, commission, test, troubleshoot, and maintain protective relays, relay schemes, digital fault recorders, SCADA systems, distribution automation equipment, and related communication systems.

Collaborate with electrical engineers and field teams to diagnose technical issues and implement effective solutions.

Perform functional testing of substation control circuits, including relay panels, transformers, and circuit breaker replacement or upgrade projects.

Conduct end-to-end relay testing using platforms such as Doble ProTesT to validate carrier, fiber, and communication-assisted protection systems.

Support the development of standardized procedures for commissioning, testing, inspection, and maintenance of protective relays, DFRs, RTUs, IEDs, distribution automation systems, and associated communications equipment.

Coordinate and oversee assigned field projects from start to completion while maintaining strong communication with customers, vendors, and internal teams.

Perform electrical testing and maintenance activities in plant and industrial environments as required.

Complete additional job-related tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications
-
3+ years of hands-on experience in relay testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, or maintenance.

Experience with relay configuration and testing software, such as SEL AcSELerator, GE Enervista, ABB PCM, or similar platforms.

OSHA 10/30 and NFPA 70E training preferred.
Skills and Requirements

Strong understanding of protection and control schemes for transmission, distribution, and generation systems.

Proficiency with relay test equipment, such as Doble, Omicron, Manta, or similar test sets.

Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and relay logic.

Familiarity with NETA standards, acceptance testing, maintenance testing, and field testing procedures.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear documentation and test reports.

Must be able to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and comply with periodic, unannounced random drug testing requirements.

Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

Must be available to work regular overtime as needed.

Must be able to climb ladders, stand for extended periods, drive regularly, and travel by air domestically, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Must be able to pass a fit-for-duty physical examination.

Must hold a valid driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record.

Willingness and ability to travel as required.
