Position Overview

A leading title insurance organization is seeking an Underwriting Counsel to support customers across multiple states, including Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska.

This role is responsible for providing legal guidance to customers and internal teams on real estate transactions and title insurance matters, as well as evaluating the organization’s ability to insure within the parameters of those transactions.

Training and education are core components of the role. The candidate will be expected to develop and deliver relevant educational content through seminars and webinars.

Additional responsibilities include supporting business development efforts, assisting with agent audits, and contributing to underwriting support across assigned jurisdictions. Occasional travel is required, and the ability to support additional states is a plus.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel and underwriting guidance on real estate closings and title insurance matters
  • Evaluate risk and determine insurability of transactions
  • Draft and advise on title commitments, policies, and endorsements
  • Deliver training and educational presentations to clients and partners
  • Support business development initiatives, including generating new client relationships
  • Assist with audits of agents and ensure compliance with underwriting standards
  • Issue and interpret underwriting guidelines for assigned states

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • Licensed attorney in good standing in at least one state
  • 3–10 years of experience in real estate or title insurance
  • Strong knowledge of title insurance rates, rules, and regulatory requirements across assigned states
  • Understanding of underwriting standards and risk assessment principles
  • Ability to analyze complex transactions and recommend appropriate coverage solutions
  • Experience preparing and delivering presentations or training materials
  • Demonstrated ability to develop business and build client relationships
  • Active license (or ability to obtain licensure) in Missouri, Kansas, or Nebraska
