Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director, Safety for regional transportation provider.

The Regional Safety Manager creates, implements and reinforces safety systems and culture with the goal to be goal to be “Best in Class.” As needed, uses current CDL for terminal recovery and shuttling runs. Works with drivers, managers, and other personnel daily to create, reinforce, and improve the culture of safety throughout the company. Yard, landfill, and transfer station visibility. Enforcement of vehicle inspections. Driver ride along-check rides. Road observations. Regular driver meetings-townhalls. One-on-one discussions. Safety meetings and education. Creation, release, and administration of shop safety meetings. Conduct driver meetings at each location. Driver-Dash Camera-Telematic coaching. Daily monitoring and management of events. Immediate coaching of harsh driving events. Regular tracking & reporting. Enforcement of qualifications and training standards. Facility inspections. Shop-office checks. Safe work practices. Local-State safety & permitting regulation compliance. Facility improvement plans. Creates and improves safety policies and strategies. Conducts Job Hazard Analysis (discover, reengineer, process improvement, implement controls to reduce risk). Full accident/injury investigations. Follows through with corrective actions. Claim oversight with insurance company and assistance with closure activities. Weekly claim reviews. Aggressive oversight of return to work program. Assists with standardized training content for continuous improvement. Coordination with insurance broker/loss control departments. Builds relationships with local law enforcement and state agencies. Assist with recruiting efforts where available. Enters and checks of OSHA and FMCSA Accident Registers. DQ file management.

Background Required:
  • Transportation safety management (3-5 years)
  • Class A CDL with air brakes (i.e. Commercial vehicle driving experience)
  • Claims management practices, policies, standards & procedures
  • Regulations (CSA, FMCSR, OSHA, DOT)
  • Electronic log administration & compliance (eLog)
  • Executed & developed safety improvement programs & KPI’s
  • Accident, incident & injury investigation & prevention
  • Driver qualification, training & orientation process
  • Computer literate (i.e. Industry software, Microsoft Office)
  • Residence: Chicago, IL (Home office environment)
Background Preferred (but not required):
  • Waste management industry
  • Safety audits (DOT, OSHA & EPA)
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree
