Qualifications:
- Must have 7-10 years of mining experience
- Previous supervisory experience (5 years)
- Experience with permitting, submittals, compliance and negotiations with local, state and federal regulatory agencies.
- Geology and/or Engineering B.S. Degree with 7 to 10 years of mining experience or a minimum of 10 years’ mining experience in place of the degree.
- 5 years cement manufacturing experience preferred
- Knowledge of database software, internet software, inventory software, manufacturing software, project management software, spreadsheet software and word processing software.
- Good working knowledge of mining plan software
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
- Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for the supervision and coordination of all activities within the Raw Materials Business Unit to ensure a safe, efficient and continuous operation of mining operations and raw material equipment. Lead the best use of the limestone reserve and analyze the optimum proportion between the raw materials with the quality department for the sustainability the operation in long term, and cost management.
- Will maintain and enforce a safe working environment, adhere to safety policies and practices, supervise daily housekeeping of assigned area, adhere to operational policies and proper use of operation radios.
- Understand and Lead MSHA safety rules, safety procedures for operating mobile equipment, lockout/Tagout policy, confined space permit policy, hot work policy, emergency response plan, arc flash/shock and burn protection, proper containment and disposal process (via Waste Management Plan) for lubricants, paints/solvents and other environmentally sensitive materials and have experience conducting inspections with MSHA.
- Ensure quality of work performed, support, promote and utilize continuous improvement system, observe and promote best practices, good time management and be able to troubleshoot/analyze root cause failure.
- Responsible for the development, training plan and ongoing education-related aspects for the entire workforce in the Quarry Business Unit.
- Accountable for developing or overseeing the development of Standard Operating Procedures for Raw Materials Business Unit. The follow-up to assure that there is understanding, accuracy and adherence to these procedures with all employees.
- Responsible of planning, development and executing successful short, medium and long-term mine planning, optimizing reserves, also maintaining mine/quarry maps, assure quality rock is within the parameters.
- Oversee short-term mine planning to insure it follows a long-term plan, cost management, and meeting production requirements for both tonnage and quality.
- Oversee drilling and blasting operations to insure safety and cost.
- Oversee calculation of reserves and insure the methods meet industry standards for reserve calculation.
- Responsible for the optimization of quarry production rates on all main process equipment within the department, Cycle time studies, Haul road design and knowledge of the impact of haul roads on maintenance
- Coordinate and continuous communication with Quality Control Business Unit personnel to assure product quality is optimum per the parameters set.
- Responsible for the design, development and implement computer applications using programs such as AutoCAD, Carlson software and GPS control for use in mining operations such as mine design, modeling or mapping or for monitoring mine conditions.
- Accountable for the development, implementation and continuous tracking or monitoring of all Raw Material Key Performance Indicators. Able to create and extract data via reports generated through the ECS, Plant Guide, SAP or other like systems.
- Responsible for the accurate diagnosis for malfunctions on all systems. Work closely with Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance, as well as Production to prioritize actions and formulate the courses of action to correct problems. Provide input in the Preventive Maintenance Program and initiate work orders for corrective or improvement type repairs. Hold all other Departments or Business Units accountable for actions, or lack of actions, taken to maintain a safe and efficient continuous operation.
- Develop a replacement plan for mobile equipment.
- Closely monitor and track daily records/ logs, reports, statistical process control charts, short interval control sheets, quality parameters and environmental compliance limits to verify conformance to specifications and coordinate any necessary adjustments to assigned equipment.
- Coordinate, communicate and cooperate with personnel from the Operations, Environmental, Purchasing, Maintenance, Safety, High Performance and Process Control Departments to maximize the efficiency of activities within the Raw Material Team.
- Accountable for all cost control and contractor activity within the Raw Material Business Unit span of control.
- Understand and interpret company policies and procedures for workers, evaluate employees and enforce safety regulations.
- Embrace all requirements in support of the High-Performance System, Continuous Improvement (CI) documentation, Material Transformation (MAT), Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA), and Procurement to Pay (P2P) initiatives.
- Recommend, design and implement corrective measures, methods, procedures, processes or systems to improve manufacturing as it relates to equipment performance and quality of the product. Suggest changes in the working environment to enhance the conditions and use of equipment to increase the efficiency of department or Continuous Improvement Teams.
- The Main contact with Corporate Geology for new raw materials, assure emissions compliance cost competitiveness and conduct the industrial test and assure feasibility.

- Experience working with permitting with government agencies and having worked on USFS property. Knowledge of mining claims and mining laws.
- Surveying equipment (Drone, topographic equipment)
- Electrical knowledge: Basic plant electricity, electrical safety power factor, one-line diagrams, load balance, grounding systems, application and types of motors.
- Mechanical knowledge: Operation, troubleshooting and corrective action for dust collectors, bearings, belt conveyors, air slides, drag chains and air compressors. Basics of lubrication, hydraulics and pneumatics, vibration analysis, fabrication and rigging.
- Chemical knowledge: General understanding of raw material, raw meal, clinker and cement chemistry--physical tests (200 & 325 mesh, blain, etc.); chemical tests (x-ray, free-lime, etc.); microscope; physical testing (1,3,7 & 28-day strengths); and process specific--a) understand how mix affects burnability; b) interaction between fuel and chemistry.
- Accounting knowledge: Budgeting, ROI, NPV, and other relevant accounting skills for tracking and justifying project costs.
- Must be able to maintain inventory levels of all raw materials to meet plant needs.
- Must be able to source new raw materials and understand the logistics and how quality will be impacted.
