Job Impulse, Inc. has an immediate opening for a Quality Technician in Elkmont, AL.
The Quality Technician is responsible for conducting inspections and testing of incoming components and in-process materials. This role involves improving documentation, ensuring proper identification and control of materials throughout the workflow, and initiating and leading problem-solving efforts related to quality concerns.
Job Requirements of a Quality Inspector:
- Oversee the use and maintenance of inspection, measurement, and testing equipment (IMTE) to ensure proper application in production.
- Participate in internal audits, including system, process, LPA, and product audits, while supporting project and prototype builds.
- Conduct inspections for received, in-process, and final components, assisting in the creation and improvement of test documentation.
- Analyze inspection and test data to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Engage in problem-solving initiatives on the production floor.
- Develop and refine problem-solving checklists.
- Assist in audits and corrective action processes.
- Support customer PPAP submissions and second- and third-party audits.
- Halt production if necessary and conduct root cause analysis to resolve quality issues.
- Perform risk analysis for defective parts and implement containment or sorting procedures.
- Take part in 5S, Visual Factory, and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Achieve individual and continuous improvement goals.
- Maintain all inspection reports and certificates of analysis per company procedures.
- Perform metrology using CMM, optical comparator, calipers, and gauge R&Rs.
- Control qualification documentation and recommend improvements to inspection and testing processes.
- Participate in customer and third-party audits.
- Provide internal and external findings data, supporting corrective actions and ensuring acceptable closure of issues (e.g., 8D or 5-Why analysis).
- Adhere strictly to company safety policies and procedures.
- Comply with quality, safety, and environmental production standards.
- Work towards achieving quality, safety, and environmental objectives while minimizing environmental impacts.
Reporting:
- Analyze functional quality test data and identify potential failure modes.
- Provide clear, methodical summaries of quality issues for management.
Quality Expectations:
- Improve processes to enhance quality and cost-efficiency based on industry standards.
Internal & External Interactions:
- Work closely with management and personnel across departments.
- Collaborate with internal teams at both local and global levels as needed.
- Engage with customers and vendors, including participation in audits and visits upon request.
REQUIRED Experience and Education:
- Associate degree or higher in engineering or a technical field (math, physics, chemistry), OR
- High school diploma or equivalent with at least four years of hands-on inspection and testing experience, preferably with an automotive supplier, OR
- ASQ Certification as a Quality Auditor with four years of internal auditing experience and at least one year of external auditing experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills with proficiency in English for clear communication, both written and verbal.
- Knowledge of quality standards, such as IATF 16949:2016, is required.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including statistical software.
- Experience with Gauge R&Rs, CMM operation, and documentation standards.
Technical & Soft Skills:
- Strong communication, negotiation, and meeting facilitation skills.
- Fluent in English with strong IT literacy.
Additional Requirements for Advancement:
- ASQ Certification in a relevant field (e.g., CQT, CQE, CQA, CQI).
- Associate degree in engineering or a technical discipline (math, physics, chemistry).
Physical Requirements:
- Occasionally required to sit.
- Continuously required to stand and walk.
- Occasionally bend, squat, twist, push/pull, kneel, and crouch.
- Occasionally reach above shoulder level.
- Occasionally lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
- Frequently use hands for repetitive actions such as grasping and manipulating tools or operating a keyboard.
- Occasionally flex and rotate head and neck.
- Regularly work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving machinery.
- Work in a climate-controlled setting and an ESD-controlled environment.
This position plays a critical role in maintaining product quality and ensuring continuous improvement in production processes.
