Position Summary

The Quality Control Supervisor provides leadership and tactical vision focused on product quality, quality assurance systems, technical, analytical, microbial and organoleptic analyses in support of plant operations and continuous improvements, ensuring products meet both company and legal specifications. Coordinates the development of worker capabilities through training, coaching and communications. Ensures adherence to contract QA and GMP obligations, and the requirements of regulatory agencies, such as the TTB, OSHA, FDA, and environmental regulations and requirements. This position manages the Quality Control technicians to meet customer (internal & external) needs and achieve standards related to cost, line efficiencies, waste, safety and productivity.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Ensures all products manufactured at the company meet internal company, 3rd Party Customer and legal, specifications and requirements.
  • Ensures TM’s and SOP’s relating to job functions are created, updated and maintained.
  • Manage the organoleptic and analytical resources of the Quality Control staff to provide accurate, statistically sound, and meaningful data to plant operating departments about the quality of their manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain effective business partnerships with all internal department leaders and facilitate cross functional activities to meet or exceed established operating objectives.
  • Maintain positive customer relationships through timely management of customer requirements and pro-active management of problem resolution.
  • Ensure compliance to all federal, state and local regulations and guidelines including but not limited to: OSHA, TTB, GMP, HAZMAT, HACCP and EPA fines.
  • Implement, manage, and maintain a comprehensive Laboratory Quality Assurance program to verify that we are operating labs in an efficient, effective and safe manner while generating valid data to the operating departments in a timely manner.
  • Ensure full compliance with the requirements of all applicable Quality Manuals and/or Brand Technical Manuals (internal and external 3rd Party Customers.)
  • Meet or beat departmental operating and CAPEX budgets: oversee ordering of instruments and laboratory supplies/consumables.
  • Manage Quality Control Technicians.
  • Approve/Reject benefit requests: manage and ensure sufficient laboratory coverage.
  • Enforce plant and company policies and procedures including GMP’s and maintain 5S system.

· Manage and conduct Proficiency Testing across all facilities and/or co-packers. Evaluate participant performance against pre-established criteria by means of interlaboratory comparisons. Access the accuracy, repeatability and reproducibility of results to peer laboratories. Provide information on technical issues and methodologies by generating reports and distributing to the various participants.

· Conduct Sensory Validation/Verification Training annually with Quality Control Technicians (current and incoming).

· Review new and current formulas (copy, scan and distribute). Maintain the formula and batch sheet folders for the various blending/processing departments to ensure utilization of the current formula/batch sheet(s).

· Provide GMP, Allergen and HACCP training during New Hire Orientation for the plant.

Knowledge and Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.

· Minimum of 5-10 years demonstrated supervisory experience in a manufacturing and/or laboratory environment, preferably in a Food and Beverage Industry. A good understanding of statistical methods. Strong computer skills preferred (Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint and analytical instrument software.)

· Experience and knowledge of quality control and quality assurance techniques. Experience in a wide range of chemical analyses and common analytical equipment (HPLC / DMA / Turbidimeter / Spectrophotometer / pH Meters). Excellent organoleptic skills. Demonstrates the ability to achieve performance standards with regards to safety, lab efficiencies and product quality.
