Position Title: Proving Grounds Vehicle Testing Manager

Location: Central, CA

Basic Purpose and Objective

Full-scale track testing accounts for a large part of the company’s business, which involves various aspects of development, verification, and regulatory testing of cutting-edge vehicle safety technologies known as ADAS. Test engineers work directly with vehicles in various stages of the development cycle, from early-stage prototypes to full production vehicles and are actively responsible for various aspects of testing services including instrumenting vehicles, performing on-track tests including precision driving, data collection, data analysis, reporting, assuring test quality and interfacing with clients.

The position is responsible for managing full-test service contacts in the automotive industry and leading a team of Track Test Engineers. Due to the small nature of the team, this role will not only oversee and manage the testing team but will also be actively involved in hands-on testing activities. This role requires a balance of leadership and technical skills, as you will work closely with Mid-Senior Test Engineers to ensure project success.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring clear and effective communication throughout the project.
  • Works with clients to understand their specific testing requirements and ensures that they are met within quality standards and expectations.
  • Provides regular updates and detailed reports to clients on the progress and results of the testing.
  • Addresses any issues or concerns that arise during the testing process promptly and effectively.
  • Manages the full-test service contracts with clients from start to finish including project management, resource management, test execution, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Oversees the planning, execution, and completion of vehicle testing projects, ensuring they are on time and within budget
  • Implements best practices and continuous improvement processes to enhance testing procedures and outcomes.
  • Leads and manages a team of track test engineers, providing guidance, support, and mentorship.
  • Builds and maintains a positive work environment where team members and their contributions are recognized and valued.
  • Ensures staffing needs are met by participating in the interview and selection process of new team members as necessary.
  • Monitors team members performance to ensure work is completed on time and according to customer requirements.
  • Works with HR to resolve individual performance issues that may need to be addressed.
  • Ensures team members complete their required safety and compliance training.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
  • At least 5-7 years of experience directly in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) testing or relevant field.
  • At least 2-3 years of direct management and project management experience interfacing with clients and customers.
  • Knowledge and experience with vehicle dynamics test equipment ideally including steering robots, pedal robots, etc.
  • Knowledge and understanding of various regulatory ADAS tests.
  • Ability to drive vehicles in various stages of production and development according to strict speed and position tolerances.
  • Ability to troubleshoot interconnected mechanical, electronic, and guidance systems.
  • Working knowledge of physics, electronics, dynamics, mechanical design and assembly, data protocols such as CAN, ethernet, etc.
  • Experience with MS Office products including Excel and Word.
