Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting & General Ledger Management: Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (balance sheet, P&L, and cash flow) in accordance with GAAP.
  • Month-End Close: Lead the month-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
  • Reconciliations: Perform detailed reconciliations of bank accounts, general ledgers, tenant ledgers, and security deposits.
  • Accounts Payable & Receivable: Manage full-cycle AP/AR, including invoice processing, vendor payments, tenant billing, collections, and owner distributions.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Collaborate with property managers to prepare annual budgets and forecasts, providing variance analyses and performance insights.
  • Audit & Compliance: Support internal and external audits by preparing workpapers and documentation; ensure compliance with GAAP and local tax regulations.
  • Cash Management: Monitor daily cash flow, escrow, and reserve balances; initiate necessary fund transfers.
  • Lease Administration: Ensure lease data accuracy within the accounting system, including rent schedules, tenant charges, and expense allocations.
  • Special Projects: Participate in ad-hoc analysis, process improvements, and system optimization initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business required; CPA or CPA-track preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2–4 years of accounting experience, ideally within property management or real estate (multifamily preferred).
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency with Rent Manager or comparable property management/accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, RealPage)
    • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, complex formulas)
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe
  • Soft Skills:
    • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and accuracy
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain financial data to non-financial stakeholders
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
