Construction Project Manager - Special Projects Division!
About the Role
A leading general contractor with a strong presence across Ontario is seeking an experienced Construction Project Manager to join its Special Projects Division in Toronto. This division focuses on fast-track, complex, and high-value renovation, retrofit, and new build projects across commercial, institutional, and industrial sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering projects from preconstruction through closeout, with a strong emphasis on client relationships, team leadership, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery
- Manage all phases of construction projects from initiation through substantial completion and final handover, ensuring adherence to schedule, budget, and quality standards.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, cost forecasts, cash flow projections, and risk registers.
- Coordinate and oversee subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants, ensuring contractual obligations are met and site activities are sequenced effectively.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, enforce safety standards, and resolve field issues in a timely manner.
- Lead project meetings, prepare status reports, and maintain thorough project documentation including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and meeting minutes.
- Manage project closeout activities including deficiency resolution, commissioning support, and occupancy coordination.
Client and Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle, maintaining professional and proactive communication at all stages.
- Identify and manage client expectations, scope changes, and project risks transparently.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, consultants, municipal authorities, and community stakeholders.
Team Leadership
- Mentor and support project coordinators, site superintendents, and junior team members.
- Collaborate with estimating, procurement, and preconstruction teams during project development and bid phases.
- Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement within the project team.
Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years of progressive project management experience in the construction industry, with demonstrated experience in commercial, institutional, or mixed-use projects.
- Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related discipline; PMP or Gold Seal certification is an asset.
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects ranging from $1M to $50M+ in value.
- Strong understanding of construction contracts (CCDC), drawings, specifications, and building codes applicable to Ontario.
- Proficiency in project management software such as Procore, Primavera P6, or MS Project, as well as standard office tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in client-facing settings.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and an interest in contributing to a professional online presence is considered an asset.
