Project Engineer
Charleston, WV

The seat
Russ Hadick Associates, Inc. has partnered with a Bridge Builder that operates from 4 states with West Virginia as the Hub. This opening is for a Project Engineer based out of Charleston, WV, on bridge and heavy-highway projects; the company is adding project engineers across Virginia's Shenandoah Valley and West Virginia (Parsons, Charleston, Morgantown).
The ideal candidate has about three years of bridge experience — enough to own submittals, RFIs and quantities on a structure without being walked through it.
What you'll actually do
- Own the submittal and RFI logs for your project; track shop drawings, rebar, structural steel and precast through approval.
- Take off and track quantities; support monthly pay applications and change-order pricing.
- Maintain the schedule with the superintendent; flag long-lead items before they become the critical path.
- Coordinate with DOT inspectors and the owner's rep on daily field questions.
- Support the project manager on cost reporting, forecasting and subcontractor coordination.
What we need to see
Required
- 1–5 years as a project engineer or field engineer on bridge or heavy-civil work.
- Ability to read structural drawings and work from a DOT specification.
Strongly preferred
- ~3 years specifically on bridges — the client's target.
- Civil engineering or construction management degree; EIT a plus.
- HeavyJob, Bluebeam, Procore or similar.
Compensation
Roughly $75,000 at one year of experience, $85,000–$90,000 at three years, $100,000–$110,000 at five, moving up with the experience you bring.
Why the seat is worth a conversation
- Employee-owned through an ESOP.
- A growing contractor — over $160M awarded in July 2026 alone, including the rehabilitation of West Virginia's busiest bridge; roughly $415M in awards since 2022.
- Self-performing bridge crews, so the engineer sees the work built, not just administered.
