Job Summary
The project controller is responsible for preparing and maintaining resource loaded schedules and third party costs consolidated into Project Forecasts (EAC’s). The position will work closely with project managers to understand project deliverables and variances to original budget.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Implement and refine best practice project accounting templates and methods to maintain the day-to-day financial health of projects.
- Enter and maintain project budgets/estimates in the ERP system
- Maintain Sales order, revenue commitments, reversals and addendums within the ERP system
- Set up initial invoicing milestones for all customer management and pass through projects within the ERP and deliver invoicing to customers.
- Manage billing schedules for all Industry Solution customers.
- Reconcile Industry Solution deferred revenue balances during the month-end close.
- Update and evaluate the accuracy of the project forecast by assessing actual cost incurred and physical progress achieved on all phases of the project.
- Assist project managers with forecasting accuracy.
- Maintain commission accruals as it relates to Industry Solution projects.
- Consolidate data in the schedule and in project cost reports for project manager’s review and approval.
- Provide management and pass-through reconciliations by projects to internal Project Managers on a monthly basis and make any corrections as needed.
- Working closely with the accounting team to review time tracking and allocation of time and tasks to the correct projects.
- Prepare and update on a regular basis project cash flow forecasts.
- Manage the customer pass-through funding, invoicing, and prepaid cash balances.
- Support Project managers in contingency and change order management, together with project reconciliations and management of customer funds.
- Perform financial analysis on completed projects to determine trends for future projects.
- Analyze labor costs to ensure appropriate standard labor rates used on projects.
- Assist with financial review and profitability of new Bids and Project Proposals.
- Any other ad-hoc project related tasks as assigned by Controller and CFO
Professional Competencies:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (Financial Construction Management a bonus)
- Excellent analytical, organizational, project management and time management skills
- Power user in excel and working with large volumes of data.
- 3-5 years of professional experience working with project accounting, project costing and project control.
- Solid understanding of Revenue recognition under US GAAP and Revenue from Contracts using the percentage of completion method. (required)
