Project Accountant II

Senior Project Accountant - Construction

We are seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join our team for a significant transit infrastructure project in Ontario. This 3-year greenfield project involves the construction of a state-of-the-art maintenance and storage facility, including potential geothermal systems and EV battery storage and large Community Centre.

Key Responsibilities

• Track project costs, coding, and job cost reporting to support accurate financial visibility
• Assist with month-end close including accruals, cost reporting, and variance support
• Support budgeting and cost-to-complete updates alongside the Project Team
• Prepare and submit monthly client billings and progress claims in line with contract requirements
• Maintain billing logs including contract value, change orders, holdbacks, and payment status
• Review subcontractor invoices for accuracy and compliance with contract terms
• Track required subcontractor documentation (stat decs, lien waivers, WSIB clearance, insurance)
• Support weekly and monthly financial reporting for internal stakeholders
• Work within Excel and construction accounting systems (QuickBooks, Viewpoint, Sage, Jonas, or similar)

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
• 2 to 5 years of project accounting experience in construction or general contracting
• Strong understanding of job costing, progress billing, and change order tracking
• Familiarity with CCDC-based contract documentation is considered a strong asset
• Proficiency with Excel and Procure construction accounting systems
• Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced project environment
