Location: New York, NY (Hybrid)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary Range: $150,000 – $180,000 Annually

About the Company

A leading provider of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and transit technology solutions is seeking an accomplished Program Manager to oversee complex, multi-phase technology integration programs for major public transit clients. Our mission is to enhance mobility and improve the passenger experience through cutting-edge data, communication, and automation solutions deployed across large-scale bus, rail, and light rail systems.

Position Overview

The Program Manager will serve as the senior point of leadership and coordination for multi-million-dollar technology integration programs in the public transportation sector. This individual will manage a portfolio of interdependent projects—ensuring alignment across engineering, software, field operations, and customer teams—to deliver successful, high-impact outcomes.

The role requires a dynamic leader with deep experience managing technology deployments in complex external customer environments. Success in this position demands both strategic leadership and hands-on program execution, balancing technical performance, client satisfaction, and financial accountability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end management of transit technology integration programs, overseeing planning, design, development, implementation, and operational transition.

  • Serve as the primary client liaison for program activities, maintaining consistent executive-level communication with transit agency stakeholders.

  • Coordinate across internal functional teams—Engineering, Product Management, Installation, and Field Services—to ensure program alignment and delivery excellence.

  • Manage program scope, schedule, and budget, ensuring adherence to key milestones and contractual obligations.

  • Oversee multiple project teams and ensure the timely resolution of issues, risk mitigation, and change management processes.

  • Direct technical reviews of system design, documentation, and testing with internal teams and clients.

  • Manage program financials, including forecasting, cost tracking, and performance analysis.

  • Support business development activities by contributing to proposal preparation, contract negotiations, and identifying opportunities for program expansion.

  • Lead strategic discussions with senior stakeholders to align on priorities, resource allocation, and risk response strategies.

  • Drive continuous improvement by analyzing productivity, process efficiency, and team performance.

  • Serve as an escalation point for both internal and client-facing program matters.

  • Travel up to 35% for onsite client meetings, field integration oversight, and system reviews.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 10+ years of experience managing large-scale technology integration projects, ideally within transit, transportation, or infrastructure technology sectors.

  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience as a Program or Project Manager overseeing complex programs valued at $25M+.

  • Proven success managing programs involving software, communications, and control systems integration.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.

  • PMP certification or equivalent preferred.

  • Strong technical understanding of ITS, CAD/AVL, real-time communications, or related transit system technologies.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, including experience engaging C-suite stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to navigate contracts, manage subcontractors, and balance strategic and tactical responsibilities.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, JIRA, and ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle).

  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment.
