Professional Structural Engineer – Vancouver BC
As a Structural Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in cultivating client relationships and delivering high-quality structural services to our industry clients. This position demands the application of independent engineering judgment and self-direction to successfully complete projects. The ideal candidate will have three to ten years of post-graduate experience in an engineering environment, with undergraduate experience in construction or engineering-related activities being preferred.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analysis and design of structural systems and components.
- Knowledge of building and non-building structures and systems.
- Develop plan details and specifications appropriate to construct or fabricate systems to transmit structural loads.
- Direct Engineers in Training and technicians in the preparations of proper documentation.
- Site observations and inspection of construction projects.
- Prepare reports and oral presentations for both internal and client use.
- Maintain budget and deadlines to client satisfaction.
- Work within multi-disciplinary terms in varying roles.
Desired Capabilities and Abilities:
- Professionally dedicated to delivering high-quality, well-organized documents to clients.
- Knowledge of basic structural engineering principles and practices applied to project design and construction.
- Manage and direct the work of EIT’s, engineering technicians, and other staff.
- Engineering calculations, estimates and designs.
- Read and interpret plans and specifications.
- Complete reports of on-site inspections and observations of construction projects.
- Ability to effectively and respectfully communicate and interact with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and clients.
- Experience with Revit and Microsoft Office.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Qualifications and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineering license in the province of British Columbia.
- Three to ten years of post-graduate experience in an engineering environment.
- Preferred undergraduate experience in construction or engineering-related activities.
- Proficiency in relevant structural engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, SAP2000, ETABS).
- Strong knowledge of local building codes and regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions
- Work normal business hours but may be required to do some work in the evenings or outside normal working hours;
- Able to work on a computer for long periods of time;
- Required to spend long hours concentrating, which will require attention to detail and high levels of accuracy;
- Required to meet a number of deadlines which may cause stress; and
- Able to travel domestically internationally if required.
